The other comments were pretty ugly and ignorant. But it is hypocritical to chastise the federal government then go begging to it for help.

So I can’t be against cowboy poetry and planned parenthood receiving federal funds and still think federal government should help with major natural disasters?

No one should be surprised.

The humanity in everything is gone, and the internet killed it. No one matters, to anyone, not even you, anymore. The bloodless death of humanity has been interesting to watch. The more information we have, the less we know or trust. The more we are connected, the less we see of each other. We streamline processes to be more efficient yet we work more as a result. Co-workers are now just a picture on a screen, not a fellow human trying to make their way through the world just like us.

The world will never work as people without humanity, and it needs to come back, now.

a lot talk about how they could actually manage the forest and do things to protect themselves, but there are a lot of comments that mirror those.

Well, the poor forest management issue in Cali is a fact and would help prevent or slow down some of the fires. Not all of them but the Malibu fire a few years ago was worse due to the poor management. That's not an opinion but a fact.

I do agree some of the comments from the South regarding CA fires are nasty but at least the fires can be somewhat mitigated, unlike severe weather which the majority of this country faces at some point in the form of floods, blizzards, tornadoes, tropical storms, etc

Sure. I would support that as well.

The comments about claiming to want less government only to beg for federal government help are correct though. Which is it? Those are the sacrifices that come with lowering governments influence in your life.

Actually, these are the types of situations a functioning Federal Government should be used for. Don't confuse wanting a smaller Government with not wanting a functioning Government.

What these yahoos don’t realize is that those suffering the most are the poorer black communities in LC, not exactly Trump strongholds.

Well, one of those black communities is fighting a $30 million buy-out of an area that has flooded over and over again.

quote:

Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced the state is funding a $30 million program to offer voluntary residential buyouts in the Greinwich Terrace neighborhood of Lake Charles, an area that has flooded three times over the past four years, including during this week’s heavy rain event.

Many of the people there don't want to move and have some conspiracy they are only being forced out so the land can be commercially developed.

That’s the point

Everyone is against big government until they cut something you agree with/affects you

Like people in Louisiana when they mention cutting TOPS

Block grants for rebuilding. I think most of it will be for flood mitigation use. The more developments happen to the North of LC, the more the southern part of Calcasieu floods.

They are gaining power and it's scary. Resembles communist Russia more and more. You gain all this power just to abuse it and censor your dissidents.

TOPS was a good program, but has turned into a gigantic redistribution scheme. The standards need to be raised significantly or it no longer needs to be tax payer funded and it reverts back to its original charter and mission.

That's not how it works anymore. Not with FEMA elevations and not with the way things are going in LC right now. You can't move the water onto someone else.

The state has also changed. If you are on a state highway, your development can no longer dump more water into the state ditches than what mother nature dumps naturally. How they determine that I have no idea but that's why you see huge reservoirs built in front of say a new Walmart or something now.

Not saying something won't be built there eventually but the location isn't exactly one businesses are fighting to be in especially considering the cost they will incur to deal with the flood issue.

Yeah it’s fricking disgusting what they are saying. It also resembles a lot of the comments about the California wildfires. Not all, a lot talk about how they could actually manage the forest and do things to protect themselves, but there are a lot of comments that mirror those.

Except objectively we accuse the left of not doing something basic like prescribed burns that is proven to lessen wildfires.

The left is essentially saying you have to subscribe to their pie in the sky dubious climate change agenda that will change nothing to somehow prevent a hurricane from hitting one specific area of the United States.

These leftists actually believe if we put up enough solar panels hurricanes will stop or decrease.

The right ask for practical steps.

The left asks you to believe in their ridiculous fantasy.
