What was going on in lake Charles in 1983 that justified building that thing anyway?
IIRC that was right before the "oil glut"

In 1983 RR was in tWH & the good times seemed endless

Tilman is busy trying to get gambling legalized in TX along with Mark Cuban

and when that inevitably happens, Tilman will 100% receive the Houston-area license and Cuban/Adelson family will receive the Dallas-area license.

Austin and San Antonio? who knows, but Houston and Dallas are already locked in.

Worked there in the late 00s. When I left, the building was only at about 50% occupancy. Heard it was around 40% when Laura hit. The bank in the lobby was closed by then as well.

Yes and it's registered as a historical property. You can book the main building and the courtyard as a venue for events.

The CM bank owners had enough money to burn a wet mule, W T Burton heirs.
Counting money is still their hobby.

One of my dads famous sayings; wet mules don’t burn easily, they have enough dollar bills to set on fire to make a mule burn.

Demolition by neglect.

Were the owners being fined for neglect?

so as far as Lake Charles and Louisiana goes ... what happens if he gets his casinos in Texas? does he shut down Golden Nugget Lake Charles?

you can walk through the parking garage at Golden Nugget Lake Charles and 9 out of 10 of the license plates are Texas.

obviously if he gets casinos in Houston and Galveston that will kill Lake Charles....

Hey I know it's been a bit but 2020 wasn't a decade ago.

Parking was terrible outside the main entrance, garage parking was not beneficial for quick trips for business transactions. Basically it was an overbuilt building for the city that looked good.

When they demolish it, you think there will be random puffs of smoke up and down the thing and then fall straight down like the twin towers did?

Ole baw don't know shite about tower work. Tower dogs work in some seriously bad conditions, it is just part of the job and the reason high tower techs get paid very well per climb.
