problem is people have no concept of population. I have had so many people ask me....why can Lafayette and BR get this or have that and LC cant.....its fricking laughable when you think about it....
they are essentially asking, why cant LC have the things cities that have metro populations 2.5 and 4.25 times what LC has.

Meh, they unnecessarily built a huge apartment complex downtown recently that I'm sure has vacancies. Ain't no way there is a demand for that many more apartments downtown considering Luna is the only thing ever open after 6 pm.

Nah, that building needs to come down. Now it would be nice to build a hotel with a restaurant/bar on that site after it’s gone.
The dumbest thing they did (and some of the old LC people I know admit this) when they built the Civic Center was surround it with acres of empty parking lot instead of developing around it and tying it into the downtown area. They had the chance to build a garage but passed due to the cost. It just isolates the Civic Center so much.

dont think so. its pretty full, same with muellers lofts, charlston etc
but no way in hell could LC support that many for a building like the tower.

I agree but I did hear recently that with the Children’s Museum getting close to opening and Crying Eagle getting started they are going to start looking at development on the other side of the lakefront parking garage on the old Hilton site.
Maybe they can work their way along the lake and eventually get to the Civic Center area. Hoping that the tower coming down may spur some development in that area.
I love LC but there seems to be two big factions here. One that wants to be Lafayette/BR but doesn’t grasp the population differences and one that wants it to be LC from 1960. Theres so much potential for growth here but it has to be done in a structured way.

100%. luckily the ones that want LC of 60's are dying off and no longer have the power like they used to.

I got eat at the City Club for one of the Lawton's granddaughter's weddings...damn good food back in the 90s.
Worked in there for Serv Tech Engineers in 1995/1996. First job in the instrumentation design world.
On one hand..sad to see it go...but on another, it is an eyesore.
They should take down the LC Civic Center too.

That's a fairly poor take... The Rosa Hart Theatre is connected to it as well and just recently finished up some massive renovations. It's now premier venue for shows and plays. But as mentioned, the concrete jungle around the center can be drastically scaled down.

Also, I think Lake Charles has been on the up and coming list the past 2 decades and its still what its always been and always will be. Just facts based upon history and current economy.

That's why the parking lots could be replaced with two small parking garages on either end of it with the required number of spots. The rest of the land could be developed into a walkable downtown, with 3, 4, 5, story buildings, mixed use, on street parking, parking shielded in the center of the blocks. The narrow strip of land along the lake itself would remain public.
