Well technically, I do agree that our nation's morals have declined. I just don't think God is sending angels of death into our lives to prove a point.

They are very far from being Christian.

I don't know why so many people believe they wouldn't show for this. They may in fact not, but they are shitty people and have proven that they will show up to spout their bullshite at plenty of funerals.

I hope for the sake of the families that you are all correct though

Once Jindal opened his mouth and got the government involved, it was a foregone conclusion that they would show.

A large source of their revenue is Secrion 1983 suits against government officials who violate their constitutional rights.

Yeah...no.

This was a recent podcast done by Sam Harris interviewing Megan Phelps, who is the granddaughter or Fred Phelps. Some of you may know her as the younger girl you'd see all the tie in front of the protests holding signs, etc. Daughter of Fred's daughter who seems to be the legal face of the group. She left the group a few years ago and is really a good look inside in regards to what they believe, why they do it, etc.

LINK

People may disagree with them, certainly, but they absolutely mean what they say and believe what they say they believe.

It's a good conversation for anyone wiling to listen...

They better not show up down here in south louisiana! Us good ol boys don't put up with that shite!

Did I do that right?

Any more Facebook groups I can join to give the WBC group more attention while acting like a tough guy?

I had always assumed they were a Christian smear group, because they are such assholes, but I recently listened to a podcast with the granddaughter of the founder of the church. She had defected from the church and was pretty open about what it was. These people are just whackos. It's the same line of indoctrination that causes suicide bombers, they aren't held to earth by logic. They live in their own reality.

Check out "waking up" by Sam Harris. Some of his shows suck, but a lot of them have really brought an interesting point of view on things.

****WARNING: This guy is an open atheist. His show isn't about atheism, but he does make reference to it. I don't want to be considered a heathen here, but I do like listening to varied types of opinions. He's respectful of religion, but he's not afraid to discuss the positives and negatives in an objective way. If you aren't the type of person who likes to have your viewpoint challenged, don't listen. He mostly discusses the problems with Islam, so he's not your typical Christianity bashing liberal.

And to create a situation in which average Americans would support the curtailing of first amendment rights.

Wow...that's some attempt to distance yourself from Harris. Thankfully I don't feel the need to do that, so I simply linked the podcast two posts before yours...

That being said, Harris is tricky for both the left and the right. He's without a doubt a lefty and an atheist. But many, and I mean MANY on the left fricking hate him because he's just as rough on Islam as he is on Christianity, and more so to be honest. He calls out the left's mind-boggling hypocrisy when it comes to kowtowing to Islam...which I'm guessing is maybe the only thing you probably like about him?

I wouldn't classify them as real Christians, but I don't think that is the reason. They are just whackjobs who want attention. That's why they always claim they are going to protest funerals like this.

No. I like all of his podcasts, I'm just well aware that many people are hypersensitive about that and I don't want to cause anyone undue duress. Additionally, there are psychos on this board who will stalk you for months over trivial crap like this. I've had a few over the years, I would rather not have another one.

I prefer Dan Carlin, who is probably the right leanin version of Harris, but I respect them both because everything they say on their show has been deeply thought about from all angles.
