About 1 a.m. Tuesday, Lafayette Police stopped a vehicle traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 near mile marker 103.
During a search of the vehicle, about 3,058 grams of crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $611,600 and 508 grams of cocaine with a street value of $50,800 were recovered.

Stupid to try and move that on an interstate, and at night.
Was it at least raining hard?

If you have $600,000+ worth of meth in your vehicle,..there needs to be some rules.
If your car is too flashy, or if you drive an eyesore POS with faulty electrics...rent a 7 year old Honda civic.
Be sober. Drive the speed limit. Use signals. Shave. Dress respectably.
Ideally moving stuff in a hurricane evacuation is best. Many people, lots of reasons to pack large and if you're somewhat in the storm, no one wants to pull you over.
Just slap a fake storm team sticker on your vehicle and you're good.

What group of oilfield baws just missed out on this week’s shipment?

The cops on that corridor are using a network of license plate readers that can be placed on signs, portable trailers, cop cars, repo vehicles, traffic signals, and almost anywhere else. They upload live to a network that gives each vehicle a value. If the car is tagged in an area of known trafficking, then it takes the registered owner and tags his other vehicles, which then tags where they frequent. It has gotten to the point that the cops sometimes get an hour notice before a "hot" car is coming through. This is actually a "miss." Cops don't want the drugs. They would rather get them coming back with the cash that can be seized.
