Bon Temps Grill is in the space now. We went the day after Thanksgiving and it was abysmal.
Too bad. We liked it when it was on Kaliste. They will be out of business within a year, unless something drastic happens.

So who owns the one in Shreveport? Wasn't it the first one?
Phil Barbaree. He has Shreveport and Birmingham.
Yes the one in Shreveport was the original. I grew up there. It’s where I learned to drink.

Yeah, it will effect the 50 other shitty Mexican restaurants in Lafayette more than LaFawnduh's.
Best Mexican in Lafayette is a hole in the wall place off moss street anyway. Best Mexican place in the Lafayette area is right off I-10 by Scott. Food an clientele at both places is great.

For the life of me, I don't understand why people like this place. $26.50 for beef fajitas makes me want to punch someone.
I dont mind paying that at a place with premium fanitas like el tiempo or lupe in houston. The only place in lafayette with decent beef fajitas is chuys and they are just good not great.

Gus, you must have had an off night.
Eaten there dozens of times and never had a bad meal there.
Brought out of town family there on a Monday night and got the last available table.
Parking lot mostly full most days of the week.
They are killing it in the new location, and I’d say that whatever post-COVID staffing issues they may have had have mostly unnoticeable.

Panchos, it was in the building where Deanos on Kaliste Saloom is now.
That was Casa Ole , owned by Jody Ferguson and Ed Krampe’s daughter. They sold that building to Tim Metcalf. Ferguson is partners in a food & hospitality group that bought Charlie G’s, Pete’s, and Social
Panchos was in the shopping center by Ricky Smith Audio, Twins. The Japanese restaurant moved into Panchos old location

El Potrillo ? It has absolutely zero flavor, never got the love for that place.

La Rumba ?
Heard it was good but have never tried it.

OK, i'll be specific.
They took the very good charcuterie board off the menu, and replaced it with a sausage plate.
The 'jalepeno and crawfish' hush puppies had no crawfish and no jalepeno in them that anyone could discern.
The crawfish enchiladas were store bought flour tortillas wrapped around some crawfish tails, drowned in velveeta, and microwaved.
The meatpies had been taken out of a freezer and dropped. I know, because they were still frozen in the middle when served.
Should I go on? The blob of grits I had was so dry, and clumpy that I didn't know it was grits at first... I thought it was powdered, instant mashed potatoes.
The corn macque choux, had so much flour/white roux that it was inedible. I had one bite.
My daughter's club sandwich was untoasted white bread, had no mayo, mustard, or any condiment. It was just a dry sandwich, cut into triangles.
It was an embarrassment.

and I give zero fux if they are making money; so is Prejean's, and they are terrible, too.
They've clearly chosen the "fleece the tourists" business model. If it works for them, fine, but I go to restaurants for good food. Bon Temps is serving crap, currently.

I'll take El Rancho Carcineria (or whatever it's called) on Cameron for legit Texmex street food. I've been in there often and can't find a single person that speaks english. I lived in West Texas for 8 years. This place is authentic.
All that being said, I love LaFonda. Not for real mexican food, but for nostalgic Lafayette old school. Great Margs, good steaks, decent guac, fried rabbit and chicken, carne asada, and chicken tap. Stick with these, and maybe the pork chop, and you will be fine and have a good time.
Milf watching off the charts!

Didn’t Lafayette have a Ninfas at one point?
Yes, owned by an Iranian and a Sri Lankan. As soon as the Houston people finished training and left, they cut every quality corner available to cut.
I worked there in college. They ran it into the ground in under 2 years.
Long live Javiar! Night Movies... tonight, we go!

Yes, but the Bangladesh owner let the place go to shite.
You're right. I was thinking Sri Lanka, but he was from Bangladesh. His partner and manager was from Iran. I think he used to work at City Club, when it was downtown.
Do you remember their names?

I will say this, last time I went to el potrillo, which was a few years ago, it was kind of bad that time, so maybe it went down hill.
La rumba I have been to several times, not recently though. Have had several different items and all have been great.

Settle down Scooby. The women are hot, the margaritas terrific, and you can get a decent steak.
That's good enough.

Still pretty crazy the amount of mexican places that are there/have been in that area.
Currently from Walmart to Costco:
La Hacienda
Pedros
La Pagua
Tampicos
Aztecas
Another La Hacienda
El Paso
Chuys
Agave
Superior
Count Chipotle and Izzos if you want to get technical
Closed:
Coyote Blues
Acme Taco(RIP in Peace)
Posados
Ninfas
Panchos
I can summarize why they all suck:
-they prioritize minimizing food costs... they use the cheapest ingredients possible
-they cut their fajitas into strips before cooking, instead of cooking the piece of meat whole, and slicing immediately prior to serving
-they don't make their tortillas in house
You're welcome.

I agree. The nachos are also great, they do it the old school way. It's also hard to be the Don Briggs.
