Lafayette, great town, but who are you and what do you do for a living?

Just came back from a week long stint in Lafayette. I was sincerely impressed.
I don't think I had been there since a soccer tournament when I was 12. I felt like I was in the Buckhead/Highlands areas of Atlanta.
Clean, plenty of activities and nightlife, no traffic, and the huge shock to my system was I saw no real noticeable trash(people or otherwise. comparably)
My question though is are the people there locals? I detected no accents(like you'd here from Carencro,Erath, etc). The prevailing style everywhere I went was business casual(country club feel). I understand ULL is there, but most of the people I saw seemed to be 25-35 professionals, is it just that I'm so use to seeing punk kids running around, that when I see a 21 year old wearing a polo and khakis I automatically think he's 30?
Baton Rouge has capitol jobs(state government) and industry(plants).....what industry does Lafayette have that has pulled so many to the area, and why is it that Lafayette has less of a "low brow" influence that other cities in South Louisiana seem to produce.

Lafayette has been booming for a while now.
Might slow up a bit now considering the state of Oil and Gas right now.

You must have stayed in River Ranch without a car.

What area of Lafayette were you in and what were you doing while in town?
Social club, I think the city bar, Don's, a couple parades, dinner at friend's house that had moved there.
I said week, Thursday-Monday.
Went to a little liquor store before a parade and they had sommeliers walking the aisle assisting you with your purchase(forgot name of liquor store, I think near Congress/Johnston parade route)
I can't believe that I was just lucky. I want to know how the area developed the way that it did, and if there's any way that it can be replicated.
ETA: the parades(both at night), no fighting, everyone kept a decent space not jumping into your area for beads, very pleasant experience(as opposed from New Orleans and Baton Rouge parades that I've been and now refuse to go)

That's probably Marcello's.

If you didn't notice any trash, I hate to break it to you, but that means you are trash.
ETA: why don't you drop the ULL fleur de lis logo before starting the tread. It would look more believable

If it was a couple talkative old guys and some well spoken college kids, then probably.
No line, easy transaction. If I were in Baton Rouge, I'd have to wait for an annoyed cashier to get off her cell phone to help me after waiting 10 mins for her to figure out how to make change.

The trash gets pushed out to he outlying areas.
There is really limited amounts living in the city limits. Youngsville is decent. Broussard is pure oilfield trash.
Downtown is fee loping into a really neat place, but still has a way to go. River ranch is a great newly developed TND.

You must not get out much?
Every city has a nice area.
