What’s the story behind him turning his back on his home country and representing Sweden

I’m the USA you have one track meet to try and make the Olympic team. A bad day and you aren’t in. In most other countries, and I’m pretty sure Sweden is like this, they look at your body of work and select you. Much easier for him to make the olympics from Sweden. Plus, he’ll be a superstar there and get better monetary support. Track and field is much more popular there than in the US. Can you name a pole vaulter from the USA not named Duplantis?

You are correct. He is guaranteed a spot on the team because he is the best. Imagine making him compete against others that he's bested numerous times. Stupid, yet that is what the USA does.

You must not spend much time on the Rant. His Dad was a Pole Vaulter for LSU. His Mother was a Heptahtlete and Volleyball player for LSU, and his older brother is an All American on the LSU Baseball Team.

Thank God Christian Pulisic chose to be a trailblazer instead of a turncoat

Pulisic also didn't have to sacrifice his citizenship in order to get the best coaching and training in the world. Imagine if Pulisic had to make the choice of staying in Hershey for 3 more years or switching to Croatia and transferring to Dortmund at 15 like he did.

USA T&F is not setup in the best interest of people like Mondo who are world-class at a young age.

A) USATF is one of the biggest jokes of an organization and doesn’t take care of their athletes

For example, Sweden will take of getting all his poles, gear, etc. to the meets for him and they’ll pay for his family to travel to meets. He basically shows up and takes care of business. USTF doesn’t

Ding, ding. He's guaranteed a spot on the Swedish Olympic Team based on his body of work. In the USA even if you are obviously the best you still have to qualify in the trials. If you are sick or slightly injured and have a bad day at the trials, you are out.

Yep. This is the reason. Remember the Dan vs Dave commercials leading up to the Barcelona games.

Dave Johnson was a damned good decathlete with a shot to medal in 92. Dan O Brien was the reigning world champion and gold medal favorite for the 1992 Olympics. He was heads shoulders the best in the world.

Reebok did this massive ad campaign featuring the two. Then Dan had a bad day in New Orleans and didn't make the team.

US T&F Olympic selection is a crap shoot.
