Probably more than you think...

I know a LaNG pilot that flies out of Hammond...He could have been on there..

ETA: He was not..

It's a tragedy that this happened, and I am atleast glad they were able to recover the bodies so the families can have some sort of closure. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

Not to derail, but Over the last few years ive started to notice this alot more in articles:

quote:

A military official says the four soldiers and seven Marines are presumed dead.

The official spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the official wasn't authorized to speak on the record.

if they arent authorized to speak, then why are they talking to reporters? and even if they are, wouldnt it be understood that it is off the record, so a reporter wouldnt be able to run it in a story?
sorry to bring it up in this thread, its just something i think everytime i read it in a story (which seams like alot lately)

not directed at you GK, just the one i replied to

what if they are talking about the same person, but don't know it? It's not like people use real names on here?

Could you imagine the tin foil hat people if there were a military incident and it was not immediately in the news...

Dammit. T&P to the families. If nothing else I'm glad that these men will be able have that flag draped over their casket and their families will get some sort of closure (not that it matters though)

A UH-60 cannot hold 18.

Is heavy fog not a deterrent for training exercises? I know you need training in any condition, but I wonder if we're going to start hearing that this should have been a cancelled op.

he is saying that similar to any other tragedy there were will be a ton of people who were "suppose" to be on the bird but in fact were not and just want attention

I can't speak on the details of the mission but you realize these aircraft and pilots are IFR qualified and current right?

I would imagine they train in inclement weather in case they have to fight/operate in it

This is from a quick google search. So it can hold 18ish.

The UH-60A is equipped with troop accommodations for eight, which can be removed to accommodate four full-sized medical litters. The Black Hawk can transport 11 fully equipped combat soldiers in an assault ready configuration, or 14 in a maximum capacity situation. Maximum troop carrying capacity is 20 lightly equipped personnel. The dedicated medivac variant of the Black Hawk can accommodate 6 litters
