La COVID Hospitalizations down 600 since Jan 7 (2069-1416). Last 2 weeks, 30% Drop!

On Jan 7, La had just over 2000 COVID people in hospital. As of Jan 15, that number was still over 2000.
As of yesterday’s report, data as of Jan 30, that number was down to just over 1400. 30% drop in the last 2 weeks seems pretty substantial.

It’s amazing how the numbers improve when you change the criteria for positives!!

This is what happens when you elect someone who believes in THE SCIENCE.

Wait till March. Everything that's happened so far is a dress rehearsal for what is about to happen when the UK and South African variants become predominant. The mortality rate of the South African mutation is considered classified by the US and Canadian governments.

My understanding is that the hospitalizations really shouldn’t be affected by changes in how we count cases. Unless you are saying that many of the hospitalizations will simply just be counted as “other” and not COVID.

Dark winter or cured? I guess I’ll have to wait for the next hourly statist news media update.

That's assuming the LDH actually adopted the new CDC guideline. They still have not fully adopted the 10 day rule in their presumed positive count.

Cases are such a poor stat to measure how things are going.
Every parish basically stresses testing definitely. Orleans parish actively encourages testing as much as possible. JP just makes testing readily available. If you are encouraging everyone to get tested then you will get much more healthy people getting tested so the positivity rate will go down. If only people with symptoms are getting tested then the positivity rate will reflect that and will be higher. Cases should only matter in the parish you are in. Comparing one to another is silly.
Hospitalizations are different bc I assume the threshold for going to the hospital when sick is essentially the same wherever you live.

Isn't the death rate in South Africa per 100K about half of the US death rate per 100K?

Joe Biden fixed it all!
It's amazing what a single inauguration can do to our tabulation methodology.

It’s probably too soon to equate the change to vaccine so what are people’s thoughts on why?
Better treatment or just another wave that was weathered or something else?

I think it is just another wave weathered. Holidays. UK and South Africa peaked around the same days the US did. Probably better treatment too.

This is probably the case, but it will be hard to ever really know.
