The question is would a Comus member qualify for Tigerdroppings Platinum membership?

I think Comus members dream of this lofty honor, but they will never have it.

If you want to know who members are, just drive around uptown and Old Metairie, some of them literally have big Comus chalice flags hanging in front of their homes

How do you pronounce Comus?

I always read it as cO-Moo, which is the proper French pronunciation, but I can see pronouncing it cO-mUS due to the greek origin.

Kind of like Elysian, which I was taught as E-lis-ee-an in academia but is pronounced Eh-lee-shun in Nola

I'm 3 social tiers below someone permitted to speak to a Comus member legally, so I have to ask the board

I have no idea what any of the Nola Mardi Gras stuff means. I've been a few times. I'm from the trashy cajun side who's aunt married into NOLA nobility. Classiest thing I've ever done during Mardi Gras was vomit in the bushes along the ride and not over the side of the horse.

It’s NOLA. Who knows?

JEE-nah is JEN-ah there.

meh-LAHN is MY-lun.

Clio is C L ten.

Terpsichore is something unpronounceable over the Greek convention.

KAY-juhn is pronounced “you poor backwoods piece of trash.”

Pronunciation is very idiomatic in New Orleans.

And, as an aside, New Orleanians have an extremely poor grasp of geography outside of the metro area, the northshore, and the towns on I-10 leading to the beach.

We don’t need to, those are the only areas that have any importance. You left out ski resorts in Colorado and Utah.

My great x 5 grandfather is Michael Krafft, founder of Cowbellion de Rakin, and essentially Comus.

Fascinating thread. My only association is, back in 96, being the hired help from Texas that marches first in the Rex Parade.

These same people backed Latoya, so...

I sat in a room and begged for the support of Desi. The dissent by the "blue blood" families at the meeting was that Latoya could be controlled through donations, etc...how did that work out?

I've said this for a while and people mock me but it is 100 percecnt true.

Correct. Also, NOLA is not like other cities. The power structures, the way things work, it is truly different. People don't understand that.

Chaos is just kind of included as the parading members of momus/comus IMO. Most members opted out, but their grown children joined Chaos.

Right. Chaos has a clear (if unofficial) line to the old line krewes. Old line money is funding chaos through the annual estate planning gifts given to the kids and grandkids.

d'Etat is more just a bunch of wealthy people saying things that they could never get away with saying in "real life" but we all think about daily. It's the boys sitting around at the hunting camp drinking and telling off color jokes... but the hunting camp is far nicer and more expensive than most baws could ever afford.

Vote Democratic? Lol, most of these guys have never even meet a democrat. You are way way off bro.. Lol

This is old New Orleans money. They are all bleeding heart Dems. None of the shitty Dem policies effect them because they know those in power.

And just like high society Dems everywhere, they scream for minority inclusion and rights, but lose their minds if one slips through their ivory gates…..
