There will be some ca. 1980's Slippy DNA in that cloud, I am sure. I'll be pouring one out for the old girl.

Kirby Smith Hall, the notorious LSU dorm that looms over campus, will finally be imploded in June 2022 and will be replaced with a green space, university officials say.

LSU has planned to get rid of Kirby Smith several times over the years, but growing demand for on-campus housing has repeatedly delayed those plans.

"I think the fact that it's been on again and off again has been complicated but I can guarantee at this point that, sometime in early June, Kirby Smith will fall to the ground," said Peter Trentacoste, executive director for Residential Life at LSU.

Upon its reopening in 2011, then-LSU chancellor Michael Martin joked that students considering living in Kirby Smith Hall would get to enjoy a “historic international experience.”

"It’s a chance to live in the Soviet Union," Martin said at the time.

Had a friend abducted from the parking lot and killed in 1992…will be glad to see it gone.

Such a loss. Look how beautiful and not at all depressing it was to look at.

Katrina is what kept it going
After Katrina they housed all kinds of places that needed space. I want to say LSU HSC New Orleans was in there awhile and even dental school was housed there for a time.
They kept having to use it for displaced places
I think it also started getting used again after 16 flood that impacted a lot of people and businesses that needed space

How long have we been hearing this? I’m pretty sure they still put some poor bastards in there. I’ll believe it’s gone when I witness the implosion

Had my first LSU hand job at Kirby Smith a few hours after I moved to LSU in 2011.

Grant it, it was a hand job from myself to myself

I need to sneak in there and see if my initials I carved into the desk are still there.
