When I was a kid, I got into a habit of saying "you know" a lot. Like, "I'm, you know, going over the Mike's house, you know."
One day my dad had heard enough and just fricking lit into me about it.
I never said it again, in that manner.

Are you new to teenagers? Bru and bruh have been used for decades.
For friends, yes. There is a definitive distinction between parents and their children that demands a different type of respect. We are not friends until you are 18.
Personally I don't mind the bruh and bro in casual conversation from my kids, but I get others do. When you're having a serious conversation though such as an argument? Son you're going to show me respect.

We need more people doing this for "like." Hotdamn people sound like idiots the way they use that word today!

Typing "bru" makes me think he's saying "brooo". And if he's saying that - I don't know. That's a new on on me.
If he's saying "bruh".. oh yeah. My kids say it about 10,000 times a day.

That’s true.
But you’re not his bio-father either, so you may have to be a little more selective about which hills you’re going to die on.
If he’s saying it all the time with everyone, I recommend you let it go. He’s 14 so you should be thinking way more about relationship vs control at this point anyway.

I grew up saying it in NOLA in the 80s, but very rarely say it as an adult, but when I do, it needs to be on point. As an executive, I was asked a ridiculous question in a meeting a few weeks ago with a lot of senior people present, I paused, took off my glasses and said, Brah!?". Everyone started laughing. So they're is always a time and place, no matter your age. But 12 times in a 15 word sentence is terrible.

Our 9 year old granddaughter uses it a lot. I don't care but it gets under my wife's skin. I'm pretty sure that's why she says it lol

I bet my 13 year old (156 months) that they couldn't stop using it for an entire weekend. $1,000. They didn't make it 10 minutes.

It’s a respect issue. He calls his mom bru and his dad too. And as many times as we’ve asked him to quit it, he can’t or just doesn’t. He had another obsessive spurt a couple of years ago with finishing every sentence he said with “right?” He still does that occasionally, but “bru/bruh” is out of control. Like the other poster said, 12 times in a disagreement is a bit much.

Tell your kid to stop thinking acting ‘urban’ is cool. The women don’t dig the white kid acting like Eminem.

My seven year old son wears Cuban links and mirrored shades, calls me bruh non stop, and throws fist bumps.
Sounds like your boy is just a lot cooler than you.
