Uber seems to be popular on this board. Just saw this on MSN.

Have they never posed as cab drivers?
I hate when I see "Uber driver in Chicago rapes passenger!" and people freak out on Uber.
Google "Cab driver rapes passenger"

Stories are a bit confusing. Had any of these victims actually called for an Uber at the time?

He told the student that he was a driver from Uber there to pick her up, but he had actually had no affiliation with the company. He drove aimlessly around before exposing himself and demanding sexual favors from the woman. Warren chased her as she ran from his car, groping her before she managed to get away.
I'm sure many o' taxi drive has done the same.
quote:
a man posing as an Uber driver tried to pick up two female students outside of another college, this time Texas Christian University, KCEN reported. He told the women that he was from Uber and his original fare had cancelled. He offered to give them a ride. When they got in the car he initiated inappropriate conversation and hugged one of the women before dropping her off. He never asked to be paid for the ride, leading the women to suspect he wasn't affiliated with Uber.
Well, that's stupidity on the girls part. Secondly, need to watch out for those serial huggers.

Young women who seem to be waiting for a ride would make easy targets to these Uber fakers. Luckily, the app does have some safeguards against this kind of abuse. When a ride is requested the driver's image, license plate number and car make and model are all provided to the user. It takes the strangeness out of the stranger. However, even certified Uber users have been known to abuse their fares. There have been several sexual and physical assaults committed by drivers this year.
I like how this was thrown in at the very end, almost like an afterthought. What a hack job designed to make a headline.
"Oh yeah, by the way, they show you the picture of the driver and the car model they're driving."

Yup. Now instead of just sending an uber to get her I'm gonna have to wake my arse up and drive downtown.

Yeah i dont get it. The app shows you where you car is on the map. So if someone pulls up before your ride gets there....well umm....that isnt your ride.
Not to mention the make of the car wont match, or the license plate (who checks this though), or the picture of the person picking you up.
I mean cmon.

MSN garbage reporting as usual.
So all of a sudden, these girls hanging out just happened to be waiting on a real Uber driver and somehow, someway the fake Uber driver just happened to know they were waiting for an Uber ride?

Yeah, a snippet from another story they posted.
quote:
The Jacksonville-area resident was tracked down through his internet communications. It was there authorities say he claimed to have motivated two gunmen into storming a Muhammad cartoon convention in Garland, Texas in June.
That attack left two people dead.
The 2 people dead were the shooters that were trying to kill everyone.
