No, it will be a C-

No one should really have an issue with this. It's not like they adjusted the A and B grade scales down to compensate.

Because D comes after C and before F.

Seriously though, it makes sense to drop F if you're only going to have 4 letter grades.

“We’ve found over time that labeling all students with an exact rank feeds a culture of unhealthy competition, stress and pressure,” said Dr. Christine Caskey. “The quartile ranking is beneficial to both the students and the campuses, as it acknowledges success while also allowing more latitude and anonymity within the parameters of each quartile.”

This is the part that is a bit confusing. Wouldn't it be helpful to know if you're on the bubble?

Is a D meaningless?

I guess it depends on the class, I could get a D in art, Ace my other classes and not have to retake 6th grade.

Maybe it's different now.

Also I'm pretty sure you can graduate college with D's as long as it's not one of your degree specific classes where they say must have "C" or better.

What do A, B, C, and D stand for?

D can stand for deficient if you're only going to keep 4 letter grades.

If top 10 percent is what matters... then I would think they should individually rank down to 15% perhaps. I would think after Jr year, it would be hard to shoot up much higher than 15% to 10%.

Of course, they probably don't want you thinking like that... they just want you to 'do your best' no matter what

As an aside did posters have 10 pt scales in grade 1-12? My school district was on a 8 point scale, I never saw a 10 pt scale until college.

I would think so. I know of another district that now just tells the top 10% students. It seems like they get as much stress while others will not know how close they are. Sometimes when close knowing the system better and how to fit in certain AP or duel credit or even preAP classes that students know will not be that much harder as far as work load & to still receive high numeric grades (and which ones to avoid or at least teachers).

Also for Katy does this affect their GPA calculations or were they strictly done by final numeric average regardless of letter grade (did they just make it easier to be a C student as far as GPA scale or would this not change that)?

Always had a 10 point scale.

ETA: I remember getting an arse whipping for my first 89 in 8th grade.
