Karma is a bitch for Shreveport.

I grew up in Shreveport. Love my hometown. Have thought about retiring there. I don't wish flooding or harm on anybody, because I've been on the wrong side of it.
But let me tell you.... People up there always sorta viewed flood protection as a South Louisiana problem. I have been in New Orleans for 20+ years, and I can't tell you how many times I was told while evacuating, "I don't know how you live down there."
North Louisiana legislators for years opposed commitment of state dollars to South Louisiana flood protection. They usually lost, if only because of the population disparity. But I find it interesting that they are now underwater (especially those who thumbed their noses at the river and built on the wrong side of the levee) and they are acting like victims. Welcome to my life.

You mad.
Screw living on the river side of a levee I'm gonna get one of these.

We have same problem with Pearl River. Every flood control option is fiercely opposed by those downstream

Could you imagine that red water on white carpet

I don't know who your strawman "people up there" are, specifically, because I've never heard anyone speak against flood protection. If they do exist they're probably rednecks in West Shreveport who also don't give a shite about River Bluff or the Haven flooding. But it's cool that you're getting such a boner for people losing their homes.

These houses are north of Cash Point and look nicer than the homes in River Bluff even though River Bluff has gotten all of the press. One of them has a fully glass enclosed indoor pool. The blue line is the levee and they are inside of it. They have to have four or five feet of the river in them.

The boardwalk isn't flooding

The water is in the Boardwalk along the walkway that runs along the river but it is not getting into establishments.

Why would shreveport be listed among the places you're considering for retirement?

It's not even close to any establishment, the only water inside the wall is backwash from manholes. To say the boardwalk is flooding is asinine.

The houses North of River Bluff aren't in quite as bad of shape as the houses in River Bluff.

I grew up in Shreveport as well and this is the only serious question you need to be asking yourself. There is a whole big, beautiful world out there to see. Don't do it.
