Herd immunity is everyone's goal. Mask wearers want herd immunity, but through a vaccine. Not via a healthcare system that becomes overwhelmed by a major surge in infections.

There are thousands of young people in this country whose immune systems are compromised because they are fighting cancer. I can't imagine looking those people in the eye and saying, Sorry for your "bad luck", but I'm not wearing a mask just so you have a better chance of surviving this pandemic. Even if they have someone doing their grocery shopping, if I infect that person, I'm putting them in danger also.

True in the case of obesity, maybe some of the COPD, alcoholism, I don't know. But when did living into old age become a "shitty life choice"? I've known a lot of otherwise healthy people who were diabetic or contracted cancer, or any number of genetic issues that didn't really have a choice.
Don't forget, mask wearing is only intended to slow down the infection rate until we get a vaccine or herd immunity by infection. Their best guess is that it will take in the neighborhood of 200+ million infections, in the US, to achieve herd immunity. And that's IF herd immunity by infection is possible. Hell of a gamble to just throw caution to the wind and say, Bring on herd immunity by infection.

True. Just hoping to maybe influence someone who might be willing to listen long enough to grasp the concept. Most people shouting for herd immunity by infection don't realize we are still 200 million cases away. Maybe 1 to 2 million deaths. It's hard to look at the numbers when your life is being torn to shreds.
