Karaoke night at Mellow Mushroom sure has changed

I think it's been like that for a while now (maybe not this bad) and I can't quite figure out why Mellow Mushroom of all places.

Same old story. Just like malls. New apartments come up and are the hot places for LSU students to live for about 7-10 years. Then, developers build newer apartments (like those coming up on Burbank) and the previous "new" apartments slowly become a slum.

Tigerland was at one time a nice place to live. Now it's a ghetto. About 10-15 years ago a lot of LSU students lived in the apartments on Brightside. Now Brightside is quickly becoming the ghetto. I suspect the big complexes near the corner of Burbank and Jennifer Jean will soon suffer the same fate (if they haven't already). Eventually, all the new developments on Burbank will become slums.

Circle of life that only hurts LSU

I was starting to slide fairly quickly when I lived there in 97-99'ish.

What is the nearest good university that isn't surrounded by crappy areas?

Wednesday night at Superior Grill for example...

Exactly what Scruffy was talking about with Superior Steakhouse in Shreveport.

Went to absolute shite and then improved significantly after they ditched the drink specials.

I saw this the other day. They were dancing on top of her car. That’s not a typical human reaction when “scared” as WBRZ would like you to think.

Mellow is one of the few businesses around LSU that still seems to be thriving after more than a decade. Their management better take control of that before they find themselves bleeding money because this shite is about the worst PR you can possibly ask for in BR.

Also, if they were just loitering in the parking lot they weren’t spending money, so Mellow is taking a beating for a bunch of retards causing trouble in their parking lot that didn’t give them a dime. I’d just shut down Wednesday nights altogether.

I knew several people who were waiters at TJ Ribs during the 99 cent margaritas era. They absolutely hated their lives. TJs finally canceled it for the reasons you said, but I think the damage was done and neither TJs location has been worth a shite since then. They’re both horrible now.

I'm not sure what you mean by "nearest good" but most colleges don't have their local bars closed for fights, rioting in the parking lot, and gun shots.

Will be interesting to see if Tigerland eventually reaches a tipping point of bullshite that even the students don’t put up with.

It's a good business model for long term success.
You have to price out the unwanted. Not all business is good business. This is why I am a big proponent for toll roads.

glad it held on that long, I vacated the premises almost 20 years earlier, but that really was a cool place at the time, great parties, almost no crime, a very target rich environment the last apartment we were in was Tiger Plaza, for some reason it was a very popular place for nursing students/recent nursing school grads, we were surrounded by them, I want to go back (in time, not now)

BR has reached the point of no return- whether people accept it, on not. Those who can remember Gardere, for example, being a safe place to hang around know this is the truth.

This brand of sub-culture/mentality doesn't mellow with age. Avoid it.

I don't know if that will ever happen. Tigerland is really the only place that the college kids can go to. Unless they went to 3rd Street.

Only chance for Mellow Mushroom is to close or charge a cover after a certain time. But cover can be put toward your bill, if over x-amount.

LSU has a major problem on their hands with all the section 8 that surrounds the campus.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. LSU needs to establish some sort of real estate venture and start buying up properties and bulldozing everything.

Also, have enough influence with the city council to shut down additional complex developments for the next decade.

These two happenings would stop the cycle.

Saint Louis University has been doing this for a decade+. As soon as a property near them goes on block, they buy it. And because of that, a big investor is spending a shite load of money renovating 2 dilapidated buildings right next to them. Giving them even more property as shelter.

It's all they can do. City Governments are useless.

See, I went pretty much every Wednesday night in ~2009 and it was Freds level packed once trivia ended. It wasn't thug though.
