Kaplan and Abbeville are where the prairie starts to end and the marsh starts to take over.
There's a decent chance she'll have webbed feet. You're gonna want to check that early in the relationship.
Otherwise, Kaplan's your standard SW Louisiana small town that you find all around the marsh. It's not terrible like Ferriday, but it's still just a small town. If you like wing hunting and saltwater fishing, though, there are worse (and better) places you could be. If you like your cities with things to do that stay open past 9 pm, Kaplan ain't for you, hoss.

Screw that. I'll drive to Lafayette and meet you there. Your webbing is a benefit near water, but is nothing but a hindrance on dry land. I actually have friends in Kaplan and have spent time there and kind of like it. I just like leaving it more. Besides, I said Kaplan WASN'T terrible like Ferriday.

People from Kaplan are poodoo as frick. It’s pretty much the worst town in Louisiana.
