I listened to the whole thing and Kanye attempting to string together meaningful responses to simple questions is like pulling teeth.
Then he goes on literal 45 minute rants that are completely nonsensical. Also, hearing him delve into anything engineering or physics related is some of the most cringeworthy dialog I’ve ever heard. He yelled at an engineer because the engineer tried to explain to him you can’t “power a building with just water”.
Dude makes great music, but I understand now why people question his mental state. He had his moments of lucid thought when he calmed down, but they were drowned in a sea of nonsense.

I promise I'm not defending him or suggesting he's a literal genius, but there are plenty of geniuses who are nuts and whose mental state is questioned.
I didn't see anything that made me go straight to thinking he's a super dumb person is all I'm saying. I'll offer again that I only watched like 10 minutes because he was definitely boring. So maybe he dumbed out later.

I think anyone being objective accepts he has a form of genius in the creative arena. The problem is some people think because they have genius-level talent in one area it means they have genius-level insight in many other areas.

That's more than fair.
Even Will Hunting admitted he'd sound like an idiot if he tried to discuss playing the piano. There is certainly a "stay in your lane" aspect, even to smart people.

something i failed to realize growing up around a bunch of incredibly smart people, but realize a lot more now as a grumpy old man

I know I replying to you but I wasn’t actually responding to your post per se.
I don’t think he is an idiot, but I do think he is a narcissist that way over values his ideas in realms outside of musical productions and clothing. I also think he either had a really tough time articulating his ideas or has some legitimate mental issues based on some of the rants he went on.
And I say this as someone that loves his music

It is easily in the top 3 of his discography. It is an album that i can go back to and listen all the way through at least once a month

Kanye was purposely acting crazy, so that people would think of him as a genius. He has been super insecure since South Park put him in his place.
