Thats crazy talk. Im supposed to carry a card saying I can smoke a brisket on a stickburner to have clout in the “hobby”? Man people come up with some weird shite sometimes lmao.

Can I buy the damn coal starter for old grills

Seems cool.
Though half the reason I like to man the grill is so that I can drink beer, shoot the shite and not have to watch the kids or do other chores around the house.
Agreed. But this is a good response to the ease of the pellet smoker. I have an egg and a traeger. That traeger sure is convenient for an overnight smoke that you don’t have to babysit.

Yeah there is absolutely no fun in checking on a brisket every few couple hours all night long. I have the small version of the kamado that I caught on sale for $225 a few years back and it is an absolutely awesome and efficient grill built to last a lifetime.
Yeah. I feel you on that. I did my first Boston butt on my Kamado Joe Classic the weekend before last and will do a brisket this weekend.
I’m debating on if I should start at midnight Friday or just get going super early Saturday so I can monitor it more closely. Something like the Konnected Joe would come in super handy and I 100% would start Friday night vs Saturday morning. Being that I just started using my Kamado Joe Classic, I’ll definitely wait a while before upgrading but I can see the benefit.

It was just a matter of time once Masterbuilt released their gravity smoker. That thing really did revolutionize the industry.

I feel like I’m going backwards in ease of use but miles forward in terms of taste. I dumped the gas grill 10 yeas ago in favor of the egg. I put the digi-q on it to monitor the temps and could set it and forget it. I then built a gravity feed smoker that could run 18 hours with no intervention and stay within 5 degrees. Masterbuilt didn’t revolutionize anything. Gravity feed has been around long before they got into it.
I recently did my first cook on a boathouse smokers offset reverse flow stick burner. It requires attention every 45 mins to 1 hour, but man the flavor is undeniably better. I get both sides, but if I am going to the trouble to cook it myself, I want the best flavor, and stick burning wins that every time.

Who the frick made you the gatekeeper of who’s partaking in the hobby or not?

It’s fine if the only thing you want out of your grill is food.
That is, at the end of the day, exactly why you bought the grill in the first place.

But there are a lot of people who enjoy the process.
You keep saying “the process” but I’ve got news for you. If your offset or smoking barrel is such a process to you that you’re constantly having to go open and close vents, or add fuel, or turn your meat around, you probably don’t know wtf you’re doing.

The difference is the masterbuilt is a piece of crap that wont last unless you baby it
I've had mine for 3 years and don't baby it at all. The only thing I've had to replace are a few door sensors

I can do that without manning the grill

My joy comes from good food and not having to replace the gasket on my BGE every 4 months it’s innovation komando is telling BGE hold my beer, they have made a better product if you don’t like the tech don’t buy that model.

People try too hard on this damn site
If you have a family with kids, and aren’t a fat ugly loser, you may have a handful of weekends where you have the time to man a grill for 10 plus hours.
or
You can get a contraption that gives you the ability to have smoked meat anytime you want

I think its cool as shite. I bet everyone with a ceramic cooker uses some sort of fire starter.
I have the temperature controller for my BGE, its cool and helps get it up to temperature quicker. But once its to temp, the controller doesnt really have to do much.
kudos to them for integrating everything. I wonder what kind of warranty they will provide for all the gadgets?

Bamarep actually has one of those.

Good question. I know one of the biggest aspects of Kamado Joe that pushed me towards them was the lifetime warranty that came with it. But I kind of doubt they’d do a lifetime warranty with those electric parts. Maybe, though.
Posted on 3/22/23 at 8:03 am to grizzlylongcut
Ya, i think itd be tough to offer a lifetime warranty. My biggest thing would they would have to *at least* offer replacement parts for purchase for a good 10-15 years. Hopefully, anything new they would come out with would fit the same footprint so an upgrade could be an option.
