I just don't buy it based on my experience. I've seen some pretty egregious things from clients over the years and nothing like that has ever happened. I've only had mostly decent interactions with IRS employees.

And I will cede to your experience which is infinitely greater than mine. But I would hope you would cede that the video is a very bad look. And it is not an aberration. I have seen articles as far back as 2017 through 2022 showing this training/recruitment being done at Stockton University.

If you are a total moron that operates off of propaganda and talking points
So this video wasn't about the irs?
Also, you don’t add 87k to cover some shortage of personnel, that's to conduct new/additional work. This is not going o be for strictly enforcing sales over 600.

This video is 5+ years old. It has nothing to do with the new funding. What about that is hard to understand? There's been multiple posters in here that think IRS agents are just now starting to carry weapons and that this video is new.

I agree, they're going to be doing almost strictly other things

My problem with that is that people don't really have records for their basis on most things sold on Ebay for small amounts. Really most of the crap sold on Ebay now comes from China - so how are they going to enforce these rules on those sellers?

Remember, paying federal income tax is voluntary. The fact that they've convinced Americans to comply, as their patriotic duty, is why it has become mandatory in the minds of most.
Damn, you are a retard

I think their theory is its been understaffed for years and there are certain things like S Corp Comp and sole proprietorahip deductions that are ripe with fraudulent activity.
I also thing they're democrats and just spend a shite ton of money to spend it.

I think the shear numbers of sole proprietors and the greyness of what's a business expense will continue to be a problem, but if audits are happening I could see some increase in compliance. I think the S Corp Comp is going to be a huge deal and there will be audits and there will be assessments and there will be changes by S Corp "shareholders"

Seems like the media is making a pretty big deal of this. Or maybe it's just my overreaction. I just know from life experience that when the media makes a big deal about something, there's usually a reason behind it. And it's never the reason they tell you it is.

No the response is not enough IMO. The weaponization of the IRS against right and Christian leaning non-profits under Obama should remind everyone of how bad this could get. It is and will always be a war on small business / middle class because that’s the threat to the authoritarians. Either be a big business / special interest or on the take. Otherwise - pay up for that “freedom”

For occasional seller, absolutely.

I mean, they sure as hell ain't squeezing nothing out of major corporations without a major battle on their hands. And there's nothing to squeeze out of the poor.
They can bully the middle class because it has far fewer resources to defend itself individually.
