Never go to Costco on a weekend or at lunch if you can avoid it.
Monday after work is usually the tamest. Thursday isn't bad either.
You don't save money because by the time you check out your cart is half full of stuff you don't need.

Timing is everything when it comes to Costco. I've the luxury of going anytime I feel like since I'm retired, so I go first thing in the mornings when they open during the week.
I make it a point to never go on weekends or approaching holidays. Last time I went I was in and out in 45 minutes with around $200 worth of items in the basket that had me traversing the entire store to collect.

Plus Sams still has handheld scanners at the self checkout. My Costco took them away. They expect you to scan bulky items using the fixed laser on the machine.

It is kind of depressing. It’s like doing your grocery shopping at an overcrowded Home Depot. Also, it is pretty perverse that they check for your card to enter like it is some elite club, but at the same time, make you wait in a line like cattle to leave the building because they have to verify none of us are stealing.
All that being said, if you are disciplined not to buy stuff you don’t need and flexible with their limited options, the membership can be a real money saver.

I like the app. I can just point the app at the product barcode and it adds to my online cart and it pays by the credit card on file instead of having to pull out another card to feed into a machine.
When you're ready to leave, just total it up and pay for it with the app and head for the door. No standing in line and the ladies at the door will count your items like Costco. I don't have to put up with the rude Costco employees rushing me toward a checkout.
Sam's gas is the same price as Costco and the lines are shorter. You scan a QR code on the pump and you do not have to pull out the Sam's card or a credit card. Just gas and go.

Trick is to go on Saturday morning right when they open at 9:30, which is 30 minutes earlier than every other day.
