At least she was cognizant enough to remember what happened and communicate to them. Hopefully the other children were the same.

Everyone is on their phones. Peek into people’s vehicles every once in a while. You’ll see it.

The other day I was changing lanes on 190 between Covington and Mandeville, blinker on and everything. I notice in my rear view mirror the woman behind me cussing me out while her phone is still in her hand. She's mad at me for not seeing me merge, signalling my intent, and not slowing down.

These people have no shame and don't care to think that they could either kill themselves or someone else through their carelessness. Besides, most cars made in the past few years have bluetooth and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. There isn't an excuse to have to read texts when the infotainment system can read it to you.

Not downplaying this one but most accidents look worst now than they did in the past bc vehicles now a days are designed to come apart to assist in absorbing the impacts or accidents. Similar to how F1 cars blow into a million pieces except for the passenger compartment when they impact. The passenger compartments are stronger in cars today, but sometimes there is so much energy that nothing can help.

That looks like a classic rear end due to texting and driving.

I had an incident near miss tenn border where i was stopped in traffic and happened to look in my review at a jacked up pickup truck coming full speed into the back of the cars behind me.

All I could do was tell everyone in the car “hold on!!!” As I watched a horrendous wreck unfold behind me with the truck being hurled into the air and landing on the rear port side of my rented vehicle, blowing out all of my windows with glass everywhere.
The truck flipped several times more and landed off on the side of the road all smashed up. The driver was alive but seriously messed up. Found out he was texting and driving.
The amount of damage that that a-hole did was astounding not to mention the injuries.

This is why crash safety ratings only tell part of the picture.

Weight and size of the vehicle is a huge factor - heavy weight usually wins.

There should be a way to disable all phones once the car is in drive. It should be mandatory that you have to use Apple car play etc if you have it, and if you don’t, tough shite. You will have to wait until you get there. Phones should only be able to be used for emergencies otherwise. Who can help me create this technology?! We can be rich!

I saw a driver ( Interstate ) doing about 60/70ish holding the steering wheel with their knees & texting with their phone.
