Quite common

That is correct. But the smaller care got GREAT gas mileage. Amazing how people never figure this out. If you are driving a smaller car these days you are taking a huge calculated risk that you won’t be hit by a large SUV. The extra mileage won’t help you when your deceased. Astonishing logic

Weight and size of the vehicle is a huge factor - heavy weight usually wins.
Thus my comment of "Physics always wins...."
But more than that is that, IIHS and NHTSA does not test for rear end collisions where rear passengers are vulnerable, especially in small cars.

A couple weeks ago I drove past possibly the worst I’ve seen. A Pontiac Grand Prix had somehow spun off the highway and into a light pole. The front and back bumpers of the car were touching, wrapped completely around the pole which split directly through the driver/passenger seat. There was a sheet over the seats with a ton of blood clearly visible.

I drive a delivery truck and I swear it's almost every other car.

The "big steel" wrecks in the 50's were the worst.

I remember driving up towards the toll booths at the sunshine bridge (D'ville side) after the guy driving the coca cola truck crashed into them. This must have been in '84. Poor guy was upside down, wrapped up in the tangled metal of the truck and the booths. He was still alive and died later.

Now that I'm in houston full time I have deduced people are either on their phones and going slow. Or they arent and drive like maniacs. No middle ground

Highway 96 is kind of a bitch anyway.
It's going to be terrible with the interstate traffic too.
