Hey prick, I used the chopper video to show that despite allsnake and snake form saying no tornados in Katrina you could see evidence of them all. We had a lot of people on east beach in Ocean Springs that had houses turned into rubble but had almost no water which didn’t make sense. Once we got up above everything you could clearly see thst a tornado ripped across the ridge along the beach from a few hundred yards from Sealab property to past Holcomb. (It would be so easy with drones now) At least 2 people were killed by it.

I shared it with a bunch of the other lawyers so if you had a claim in that area it should be attached as an exhibit to your expert report. Anyway, everyone was eventually paid after a year or two of litigation.

That levee didn’t fail until the next day or so, New Orleans wasn’t a natural disaster it was a man made disaster created by the core of engineers and other people that made catastrophic mistakes. I think that was barely mentioned in the 7 or 8 hours of coverage so far. The levee should not have failed with what occurred yet as far as I know no one of the responsible parties in New Orleans suffered any consequences for their actions. And who is in charge of the new levee???

Here is the first satellite damage survey for Katrina, taken between 8/30/2005 and 9/8/2005. It was released in near real time as the images came in and were processed.

Out of an estimated $120 billion in federal spending, about $76 billion went to Louisiana and $5.5 billion to Mississippi through the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program alone. This disparity was due to the immense scale of destruction caused by the levee failures in New Orleans, which led to a different recovery approach than in Mississippi.

quote:

Louisiana: The state received more than $13 billion in CDBG funds, with much of that money distributed through its "Road Home" program. This program was designed to compensate homeowners for rebuilding costs beyond what their insurance covered.

Mississippi: The state was allocated over $5.5 billion in CDBG funds for its recovery efforts. While this was a substantial sum, it was less than half of Louisiana's allocation from the same program.

Louisiana recorded about 1,400 deaths

Mississippi recorded approximately 238 deaths

Most deaths in both states occurring in private residences and often resulting from causes like drowning, trauma, or indirect impacts such as heart attacks or carbon monoxide poisoning. Louisiana experienced the majority of deaths due to the catastrophic flooding in New Orleans and surrounding areas.

Is there a solid reason LA got so much more $$$ than MS? That is a huge difference!

I left the coast in July '97... haven't really followed politics or news down there.

My assumption is perhaps MS had it's duckies in better rows and didn't need as much as the portrayed helpless in LA- I really don't know, though. I've spent the past 28yrs involved in SC and raising my own family.

The major wind and surge damages occurred on the MS coast, but know one talks about that.

jfc, I've been hearing that for 20 years. The idea that Katrina didn't hit New Orleans is all kinds of stupid shite.

Hurricanes aren't dimensionless points of low pressure, they are large. Of course New Orleans was hit, as was the Gulf Coast. The difference is that while the storm surge hit the coast, it immediately retreated, while in New Orleans it was contained within the levees where it sat until Hurricane Rita came along and pushed more water in.

I knew people from Mississippi bragging about how they got to work within the month, and what were they doing in New Orleans? Still sitting in flood water.

Bush called Blanco and pleaded with her to declare a state of emergency so that he could send in federal assistance before landfall, to which she denied.

Blanco beating Jindal in 2003 was catastrophic for Louisiana. Pre-national politics Jindal would have been 1000x better than Blanco pre and post Katrina.. With Blanco, Louisiana essentially had no leader whatsoever and slowed down everything she was involved in.

Or maybe, it's the fact that nearly a million people were impacted in the New Orleans metro area as opposed to a couple hundred thousand in Mississippi.

The number of human beings affected is actually important.

You know…. The REAL place she made landfall on the gulf coast.

It honestly blows my mind every year when people based along the gulf coast act like anything less than cat 4 or 5 is pussy shite.

Cat 3 conditions are fricking crazy and you've probably never experienced anything close to cat 3 if you think it's light work.
