Just helped a coworker confirm she was being catfished/scammed

A coworker of mine solicited some advice from me regarding a conversation she was having with someone from a dating website.
Cliffs
Dude claimed to be a marine living in Baton Rouge but currently stationed as a "peacekeeper" in Turkey
Coworker saw obvious red flags but wanted to confirm with me due to my experience in IT and military. I helped her confirm this was a scam
Apparently the scam goes like this:
1. Chat up a girl on a dating website and build relationship
2. Use our societal reverence for military members to extract carepackages or explicit photos for blackmail
Red flags rasied by her
1. Claims to be Marine living in BR but raised in Germany (explaining broken English)
2. Claims to be in a warzone within Turkey and unable to be on the internet much
3. strikingly handsome man, like GQ model type handsome
Red flags raised by me
1. Dude said he was a "Marine Officer" but his profile pic showed him wearing the rank of E-5. I understand about "non-comms" but no real self respecting enlisted guy claims to be a "Marine Officer" when they are really a Sergeant
2. Another photo showed a guy dressed in MCCUUs standing outside wearing no rank, blurred name, and no cover
a quick google shows the Army Criminal Division investigating online romance scams
Army CID website
before you ask...no pics...Can't comment on looks because she might be on TD as well.

Apparently the scam goes like this:
1. Chat up a coworker that trusts you on a dating website and build relationship
2. Use our societal reverence for military members to extract carepackages or explicit photos for blackmail
3. When coworker comes to you for advice, that's when you pounce.
ETA: before you ask...no pics...Can't comment on looks because she might be on TD as well and I'm smashing it.

How hard up is she to get catfished? Usually it’s thirsty guys falling for that.

it's more about sharing the information in case others have a similar experience. I'm not a "look at me, I'm so great" type of guy

Is she fat and desperate? She sounds fat and desperate.

I assume this means she's ugly, fat, or both, which means the only red flag that matters

Seems like a good way to make a move on a weak co worker....

In 1997? There are nigerian princes who think this shite is weak. Your coworker sounds lonely and is trying to advertise to you that she's striking out in the love department, private.

A very similar scam happened to my secretary (trust me, you do NOT want pics) a few years back.
