Earthquake experts...Is “The Big One” going to hit Cali soon?

A physicist recently said that particular part of the fault has a major earthquake about once every 130 years. It's been over 300 since the last one.

They're saying yesterday was a foreshock to this one, same sequence. I haven't seen anything about what could come, if anything.

I don't know jack shite about earthquakes so be kind.

They say the same area but is it the same fault line? Were these shallow or deep quakes and does it matter the difference? Is it concerning that this latest one shock all the way in Vegas? Could this be a foreshadowing of a big time major quake out there? Seems like they are over due for a big one.

I saw a similar article yesterday in ny times. Us Seismologist said it's been 20 years since last 6+. Way past due and fault line still locked and loaded. More to come.

Prayers for your safety.

Same area, same fault line. The one yesterday was 8 km deep.

Today’s same fault line, but not sure of the depth. I do know it triggered a tsunami warning. My sister’s MIL felt it down in Newport Beach about 71 miles southwest of us (we’re just east of downtown LA).

Our poor dogs are going nuts. They’ve been pacing and anxious and won’t leave our side. And of course people are still shooting off fireworks, so that’s not helping their disposition any.

I was thinking 8-9 plus.

Is it worrisome that these 2 big quakes were in the same place so close together? Could it mean there might be more?

Yes, the Northridge quake in 1994 did $13-40 billion in damage and killed 57. It was a 6.7 quake.

8-9 quakes are beyond big.

Anything 6 or above is dangerous.

This from meteorologist Beth Carpenter

quote:

Unfortunately, this means that the two big earthquakes felt on July 4th and 5th, as well as over 1000 smaller earthquakes, are all being designated as FORESHOCKS. In the past, this has been telling of an even more significant #earthquake that is coming—magnitude 8 or 9?

Damn that pool video is crazy. To think the ground under your feet is shaking that much to produce waves in a pool enough to splash out of the pool.

I wonder if this fault line is done. Cali has been very lucky with earthquakes lately. Seems like the ring of Fire has been friendly to them

Thanks, Bella. We’re safe and have a plan. Gonna be a long night. Beignet is pacing again. Jolly is sleeping, but Beignet is up and pacing.
