I open the door for everyone.

No need for all of us to touch the filthy door handle. Takin' one for the team.

One thing I have learned about situations like this in the office is that you can never assume that people will understand Southern charm. One girl told me she gets offended when men open the door for her

Yeah but opening the door for a woman isn't a "Southern" thing. Men do that everywhere, not just in the South.

This happened to a friend of mine once when he was out of town for work. Dont remember where it was but it was NOT the south. The woman reallky chewed his arse in front of a large group of people. When she got done, he looked at her, smiled, and slammed the door in her face. If she hadnt lunged backwards it would have smacked her in the face. HAHA

Yes I know I should consolidate all my responses to one post. No I am not a known giver of fricks.

What exactly did she say?

I've always been curious as to why women get offended by this. Honestly, I've never seen this happen and I've been opening doors for women since I was a kid.

I am glad I do not work for a company with all this PC crap. I work for myself. Me and my uncle. We say stuff like this all the time.
If we roll up to a site to haul off scrap, we may say thanks honey or thanks baby. I could not imagine losing a job over that.

Agreed, but gentlemanly behavior in general is associated more with the south and absolutely more frequent.

Truth.

I held the door for a woman up in PA a few months ago. She gave me a smarmy, condescending look.
I immediately decided that, given the opportunity, I would not sleep with her.

Holding the door is simply good manners (I do it for men too).

It doesn't actually mean that I think you are weaker, base your thoughts on emotion, and should get paid less for the same work.

Though of course, if you are a woman, all those things are true.

You should of told her to chill, take a few deep breaths, and do some Kegels.

Its the family biz. I was very much a part of the corporate IT world many years ago though and chose to gtfo of it and do something with much less stress involved and a lot more money.

I was asking a co-worker at our corp office to help me with something. During our conversation, I said,
"I know honey". She snapped, "I'M NOT HONEY".

As someone else sort of mentioned, if you look like Brad Pitt, she would have been flattered. Else, offended by a creepy looking guy.
