That's pure bullshite propaganda that you've been fed by the bitchmade PC crowd. You know what's really unprofessional in a work environment. Getting all pissy and making a huge stink about the word "honey."
While I would never use the term "honey" or any other term of endearment, i agree with this for the most part. I've seen too many women make a scene which is more unprofessional than saying "honey." And they wonder why they're paid .77/1.00 compared to men?
I've learned in my few years in the professional world that a lot of women in the business world fall under these categories:
1. Sweet, but dumb as shite. Essentially useless except for making copies or something rudimentary.
2. Over-ambitious bitch. This one is usually single and is all about her career, but doesn't realize she won't get very far because to move up you usually have to be personable or willing to blow someone. Sometimes she is DTF and moves up until her incompetence shows and they find a new "challenging role" for her.
3. Fat/Ugly broad who is loud and obnoxious. Usually accompanied by a Diet coke and a charade of eating healthy. (Think salad with Chicken nuggets and 2 buckets of ranch dressing.)
4. Low self-esteem/extremely defensive woman. THIS ONE I HATE. Can't get shite done with her. You can ask a simple question like, "Did you end up finishing the notes for the meeting?" and she'll respond by snapping your head off about why you think she can't finish and why you have to keep tabs on her. Sucks to walk on eggshells due someone else's insecurity.
5. Woman who hates other women. This one is always starting the drama and tries to be "one of the guys." Sometimes she's competent, but the drama she stirs up causes every woman to hate her and thus fricks up the whole work place.
6. Normal woman. This one is a rare find. 1 out of every 25-30 women fit this profile in the work place. Usually they're at home with the kids, teachers, or nurses.
I know this sounds misogynistic, but if you think about the women in your work place (if you work in a corporate/business setting) you'll know I'm spot on.

We just hired a lesbian sales manager at my office. I'm a dude, no big deal. I don't report to her and she doesn't report to me.
On her second day she asked to come unlock her office. I did, and as I was leaving I get a "thank you sweetie". Since then I've been called "love" and "baby love".
I don't like it.

I worked with a combo of these two, she didn't sleep with anyone but also didn't realize that people have to actually like you to move up.
She's still with that same company and is maybe one level higher than she was 8 years ago

You just described many men I've worked with as well. Do we as guys in the workplace just not see it? I've seen guys just like you just wrote about.

You missed one:
7. The woman who is really nice looking, poised, ambitious, prepared, imposes her will on others by an absolute grasp of every facet of a project and extremely solid business fundamentals, yet you smile and take it because she does it with such flair, personality and a warm smile that you'll jump through hoops for her. Arguing is pointless because there is nothing you can possibly say that she hasn't already considered and has a response for or a valid argument against. The rarest of rarest needles in a haystack.
That's my wife.
I take it AND I like it!
(sorry... no pics)

Tell her you don't like it and to watch her mouth.
All BS aside, nobody has to tolerate that crap anymore.
Running down the hall to HR would make you seem like a candyass though.

Fat/Ugly and over ambitious and bitchy? Yep, that's a recipe for success. Jesus...

Oh, no. I've seen guys like this as well. They're usually the more illogical/emotional ones too. The ones who are hot heads or sensitive.
However, there are more normal guys than normal women in the office. That's just a fact.

uhhhhhh....that would fall under #6. Like I said, they're few and far between.

Can't argue with that. It would make sense then, that the more scientifically proven sex that is emotional causes more problems in the workplace.

I said "I know honey".
Idiot. Call everyone "Comrad".
I got puled into HR about thirty-five years back in Chicago for calling the folks who worked for me "My Ladies."
She said I was demeaning her. For two years after that I called her "Comrad Doris." The other inspectors (all "Ladies") loved it.
The HR manager said "Comrad" was asexual and OK.
He didn't care for her all that much either.

They don't hang out in boardroom meetings with Ross Perot, Carly Fiorina, Michael Dell or Robert Bass, all of whom I've met and dined with along with my wife through her work relationships.
I do agree, though, that it is difficult for a woman to raise the bar as there is a significant amount of entrenched reluctance by many men to allow a woman to be leader.
They would rather just call her "honey" and dismiss her, much as the OP did.

No shite. You included literally every woman on the planet. Take away the catch-all "normal woman", and you'd be way off in many cases.
