I have a 2.5 year old Aussie. He enjoys herding my wifes 2 cats around the house and yard. The cats do not enjoy it as much.

No pics of wife.

what's sad is that probably half of those pretty pups will go to people who don't know how to own a dog, so it will be turned over to a shelter, where it will live a shitty life and possibly be killed. so I say adopt. but by all means, feel free to get your feelings hurt

So then if I buy from a breeder and take care of the dog, I'm saving one from going to someone who doesn't know how to own a dog so it won't be turned over to a shelter. I guess that means responsible dog owners buying from breeders in the first place is bypassing the system that you are against..

that logic sounds good, until you remember that they are already a shite ton of good dogs in shelters...

Nothing is going to prevent that. Just FYI. For the most part, responsible breeders charge a premium, meaning that irresponsible owners don't buy from them. If all responsible owners got their dogs from shelters, breeders would go out of business. But the real problem, the puppy mills, would still be in existence perpetuating the sale of dogs to irresponsible owners who in turn abandon them creating the stray epidemic.

I have two rescue dogs and my wife has two rescue cats. But seriously dude, some people really want a certain breed. Get over it.

You're either a woman or a guy who owns cats

that logic
We get it. You think people should only get dogs from shelters. We have one aussie that we bought and a rescue. Rescues are hit or miss and get returned or abandoned 100 times more than dogs that were purchased from a breeder.

Just a heads up, very few breeds have an actual "mini" or "toy" version that are actually a recognized breed. Aussies do not. They simply breed the smaller ones or market the runts as "minis" so they can charge a premium. It's just an Australian Shepherd, not a Mini Aussie.... cute dog though

I know it's not a recognized breed but I am not breeding or showing her. My last two Aussies were full size and under the circumstances I don't wan't a 50 LB dog so going the mini/toy route and still getting an Aussie works.

Look I believe in people adopting from a shelter and all and if that's what they want...let them. But if a man wants a certain breed because he likes the temperament or nature of the dog's behavior let him be. I have an AKC chocolate lab that's 12 years old...one you personally would say came from a "puppy mill" although her mother was only bred once. I paid $250 for her...other than separation anxiety that's all that's wrong with her. Before her I had a lab/shepherd mix...that I adopted. Skin problems, allergies, biting problems, ear problems. But I kept her until she was 15 and she finally had to be put down.

Next adoption came by way of a dog almost going to the pound and my wife begged to keep her. She has stomach problems and ear problems. So, personally I don't like adopting if I have a choice...you don't know the breed usually nor the dog's pedigree so you could end up with problems. There's solid rationale for reasons why people don't necessarily adopt. My co-worker adopted a full blooded Shepherd...only to find out the dog had Parvo. He paid a lot of money to get that dog right....and that dog was from a animal shelter.

Congrats on cleaning up puppy shite and destroyed possessions. We got a lab/Aussie puppy a few months ago and that motherfricker will eat anything including hard back books.

she have the solid blue eyes or specks in them?

Ours had the blue eyes as a pup, but they ended up going to brown, she took more of the chocco lab mix as she grew older.
