I went through the gifted program from Kindergarten to 3rd in Houston. We moved to Michigan where there was none and I knew more math than the 5th grade teacher.

You should get a bumper sticker for your vehicle and tell everyone about it.

I don't know why OP is surprised and mad. How else would this thread go. You can't survive here if you can't give and take shots and roll with the punches.

Fair enough. And I usually do when the target is me, but when my kid is involved and people are making snide comments you can understand why I'm short.

No matter what the OT says should be a proud dad! Good on you and your SO for making sure she is educated even at an early age.

Congratulations. My son entered a similar program for advanced mathematics at that age.

My daughter won a prestigious regional writing award in the 1st grade, and the poetry award in the 2nd grade.

My son continues to be a math whiz, but struggles with spelling and hates to read.

My daughter has always loved to write and read, but her weakness is math. Her math homework requires so much of her time and attention that it leaves her very little time to enjoy reading or nurture her creative side.

Even smart kids aren’t perfect and they can struggle in areas.

No one is making comments about your child. They're making comments about the absurdity of a 1st grade gifted program and your child happens to be the one in it.

But I won’t need to tell everyone about it.

Then it becomes more about you than them.

I would not.

And I roll my eyes at friends who drop it in casual conversation every chance they get.
