Exactly. This board will be the first to say it’s a travesty when a dad isn’t in the picture but then shite on something like this.

No idea how it is now, but when I was in school it was great.
Not only were the coursework and the teachers much better, in my experience your peers were really well rounded, lots of good athletes, popular kids, etc. and you move up with the same group for many years. And I don't really mean that in a "we were the cool kids" way, but to emphasize the benefit of being around kids who were very socially at ease, could engage with adults really well, etc. All of that pays off a ton when it comes to college/career/life. There were some true dorks, but that was the exception.

Exactly.
Who knows the little girls circumstances? This might be a monumental achievement for her.

I don't know why OP is surprised and mad. How else would this thread go. You can't survive here if you can't give and take shots and roll with the punches.
Fair enough. And I usually do when the target is me, but when my kid is involved and people are making snide comments you can understand why I'm short.
Then don’t come in here beating your chest over your kid’s first grade gifted program.
You don’t like snide comments targeting your genius kid, don’t put the target on her back.
I’m sure NASA is recruiting her as we speak.

you would tell everyone about it this i can tell you.

I would not.
And I roll my eyes at friends who drop it in casual conversation every chance they get.
people that write those stupid achievement letters as Christmas cards are annoying AF. but speaking about your kids academic or sports achievements is normal. if you don't like it, frick off.

Congrats, Baw. I went through similar. Our gifted program started, county wide, in 4th grade. They asked to meet with us when my daughter was in 2nd, and said she needed to be in it, now.
Reading the 100 books to her, umpteen times, and teaching her the multiplication tables, at 5 years old, paid off.
She graduated as val., well above 4.6, and will graduate from the SEC's 3rd ranked engineering school next spring. She is working a ChemE internship until December. She pays her bills from OT, and is trying to have a home down payment in the bank by graduation.
I tell you all of this, not just because I am a proud dad, but to let you know what you have to look forward to.

What was the student teacher ratio? Some small town schools are not private but may as well be.

Which county you in baw?

I went to U-high, so probably 20-1? It’s been a long time and I don’t remember, but we were 2A at the time.
Class sizes really make a difference. We send our kids to a private Christian school for this very reason. We’re not religious people, but placed a high value on class size. At least for the very important early development years.

Good for you. Enjoy the moment. When you realize that over 25% of the kids are in that program, you will calm down. I think it’s only like 60% of high school graduates in Louisiana can even read so don’t start thinking she’s landing on Mars.

That's good, she's on her way to a good long career in the workforce. Maybe she'll even get married.
