Tell the guy at the counter you found a wad of money. Give him your phone number. If someone asks for missing money ask them how much and what the bills are. If they can’t get close to the answer on the 1st guess I’d feel good about keeping it. Do the right thing, bro.

Picture it: Baton Rouge. Circa 1994.

I was a teenager on my way to my part-time video store job and saw something in the road next to Picadilly on Florida Blvd. I almost didn't stop but thought, what the hell, I don't want to be wondering "what if" for the rest of the evening.

I reversed my car, got out, and to my surprise, saw a folded $20 on the ground. Imagining the money belonging to some down-and-out person, an elderly citizen, or a member of some other vulnerable population, I vowed to donate it for a good cause. It was found money, after all.

I devoted a good amount of time and thought to whom I would give the money. A local charity. A random stranger, perhaps? But as the days went on, however, my altruistic intentions gave way to the temptation to burn the twenty dollar bill sitting in my wallet.

Long story short, I spent the money on something I presently have no memory of.

I always find money along the trail that I jog for exercise, it’s incredibly odd. Never a lot but maybe like a crumpled $5 here, or two lose bucks there.
