Isabelle81 - I am going out on a limb and guessing that by your username, you are about my age, 34-35. I bust my arse for what I have, it is what my parents taught me. It is sickening that you think the government should "take care" of its people. Sadder to think that by taking care of people, they become useless and enslaved to a lazy mindset that sucks dry the resources that are provided by the working class. "Takes care of"...as though capable and grown adults are mindless infants. Charities exist to help those who have been set back, an employee laid off, a single mother getting on her feet. Government welfare should never be a permanent solution in a person's life.

there certainly were a few Cubans I spoke to who wanted to know about the "American Dream". They think it really exists and that everything will be wonderful once they are in the U.S. The American Dream is the U.S.'s facade.

It is disappearing. White people being oppressed by a out of control racists liberal media. Working class Americans being taxed to death. Being forced to purchase healthcare at ridiculous prices that subsidizes worthless people who refuse to work. Trying take our gun rights away.

I do t really care about the government being communist. Wouldn't let that get in the way of my enjoyment of a city as beautiful as Havana. That communist government takes better care of its people better than our government ever will.

Oh wow! The glaring naivety and ignorance in this post is down right scary.

You may be. How many people in the U.S. Do you know that receive free health care, free education through college including books, rent and food, free housing, one year paid maternity leave? Again, I am not ignorant.

Did you know that they shoot people who try to defect to the United States at GTMO? Did you know that most of their country is so poor their kids don't wear shoes? Did you know there is a river leading into Guantanamo Bay that they government throws meat into to chum the waters to keep people from swimming into the naval base?

AUC, I am unable to post pics to this site. You can see all the pics you want on the net. If I could post a pic, the first one would be one of my sister, her son and I. Saw her for the first time in 28 years, when she came to the US, thinking she wanted to live here. She returned to Cuba, after a few weeks in the US, to be with her children. She lives in a small apartment, living room, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen and back porch. She does have running water. At 74 years old, she tells me she is happy, took me to the stores where she an buy whatever she wants. I understand that Raul Castro will be retiring in 2017, when the next Presidential election will happen. I thank God Bautista was overthrown, when he decided he didn't like how the election turned out and made himself the President of Cuba. My mother's family lived in the wealthiest area of Cuba at the time. They did lose everything during the revolution. The one great thing the Cuban people have is a great compassion for each other. I do look forward to returning to Cuba, where I would like to work for the government as a home health nurse, as that is a great benefit provided to those who are too old or are unable to go to a doctor's office. Interesting that there are Registered Nurses staffed in hotels just in case a visitor is in need of medical care.

Just so you know, I don't appreciate being called ugly names. I was hoping to tell you more about Cuba, but I really don't think you want to hear anything. Thanks. (AUC, even though I responded to your post, this last line is not directed at you.)

Because you were part of a sanctioned trip. Plenty of examples of US citizens visiting illegally and passports weren't stamped.

Does your passport also say "I am a pampered and entitled Poverty-chic Tourist from America, that has no knowledge of the tens of thousands murdered and imprisoned by Cuban communism, but enjoyed my vacation (no Starbucks !) there, so I will return home and ignorantly criticize the system that has given me my immense freedom, while remaining hopelessly ignorant of the evil Communist system I now naively champion" ?

The whole point of history is that we LEARN from it. People like you who are incurious enough to learn the lessons of history doom humanity to an endless loop of human atrocity. But glad you enjoyed your vacation. If you enjoyed Cuban people, You might want to visit Miami, as many the bravest and most principled ones moved there.
