In my old age and with my recent visit to Cuba, I wanted to know what happened to create the situation to cause Cuba to become what it is today. Have been reading what I can find on the net. My suspicion so far is the U.S. Had a very large hand in what happened. Maybe I am wrong an if so I'm ok with it. If any of you know of a good book or books that I can read about events leading to and following Castro overthrowing Batista, the onset of the embargo and the start of communism in Cuba I would appreciate hearing from you. All I heard while growing up was Castro was a crazy bad man and a communist. I didn't hear much about what created the situation, but have come to find out it had something to do with Soviet crude oil. Thanks

Maybe we did, I'm not much on dates of cars. Rode in a 48 Pontiac, an Edsel, a BelAir, and Russian Ladas. Those Cuban men absolutely love their cars and all of them that we asked said they would never sell them. Most of the cars had been in their family since day one.

Kingfish, how long ago did your uncle play with PHJB? One performance they gave in Cuba was outdoors in the evening and at the end we did a second line around the block. There were about 300 people present. It was a blast. Residents watched from the balconies, probably wondering WTF.
