Wow you aren’t a very bright one. Let me break it down.
Theory 1: he was talking to his manager holding his phone.
How did he not drop his phone or the sandwich?
Theory 2: maybe he didn’t lose his phone because he had AirPods in.
If he had AirPods in how did his manager hear someone with a ski mask on say “this is MAGA country”?
I’m not saying any of this is a smoking gun. I’m just saying the possibility of Bluetooth earbuds don’t answer any questions. And that’s before you consider how in the hell they actually stayed in his ears.

Do earbuds or the Pods work with telepathy and I’ve been talking out loud when I use mine like some fool? Or do they pick up voices on some sort of microphone?
They pick up the speakers voice.
They don’t pick up voices in the background. In fact they have built in noise filters and noise cancellation software so that doesn’t happen.
So go ahead. Explain to us how the manager heard someone with a ski mask on say “this is MAGA country” through someone else’s Bluetooth earbud.....

This dude's story is so fake. I don't even know who he is, but what are the odds that the alleged racist attackers would watch Empire and even know this guy? And if the dudes would have been crazy enough to attack him and put a noose around his neck, I seriously doubt they would let him even live.

Also, who the f*ck goes to Subway to eat at 2 am? Come on...ain't no black dudes up in Subway at 2 am. Ain't no black dudes in Subway even at 2 pm. This dude may even be lying about being black.

Let me be clear, I think this story stinks. It would not shock me if the manager made up the story of being on the phone with Smollett during the alleged attack to help his client.
Now you're bringing in the sandwich... I'm merely speaking of the phone not having to be in his hand for it to be possible to use it. Has it even been confirmed that he did indeed have a sandwich? I saw it mentioned that he had his Subway bag or something.
So, if his phone is secure in a pockect, does that mean it's okay for him to have managed to hold onto or recover the Subway bag?
Personally, I think his having stuff from Subway doesn't exactly help his story of a vicious beating.
Firstly, you're still making the assumption that the only hands-free tech he would be using are these AirPods. I will grant that this is all a big IF scenario to show that it is possible to use a phone while it's still in a pocket, but you're limiting the possibilities to support your argument and call me names. As far as we know, it's just as likely that he uses something with a wire or one of those watch things.
Or...he might be one of those assholes that walks around talking with his phone on speaker. I've personally used a phone on speaker in a pocket whenever I've had to be hands free but didn't have other options.
Secondly, are you telling me that it's IMPOSSIBLE for a device with an open mic to pick up someone's, other than the intended user, voice? It's my understanding that these AirPods don't necessarily use noise cancelling software, like you stated earlier. (Though, I could be completely wrong with my assumption that it's hardware.) It's a physical/engineered type of technology dealing with multiple microphones in different locations on the earpiece. There's no way that technology is 100% effective. If it were, Apple wouldn't be touting noise cancelling as a prime feature for the next iteration of AirPod, which will be released this year. (Granted, this reads more like external sound noise cancellation rather than over the mic noise cancellation. So, that's probably a bad argument from me. Though, the system will still use those variously placed microphones to work...so maybe it does help in that it shows the tech isn't 100% effective as it stands.)
I'm not talking probable...I'm talking possible.
It was cold. Perhaps they could have been tucked in under a hat.
So we agree that his having his phone on him isn't the thing that makes this story a lie? Why the hell have you been arguing with me then? And not only arguing, but responding to one of my posts twice with the same/similar arguments.
I'm surprised no one is discussing the police report, to be honest.

Not to mention the fact that he is putting law abiding people in danger by claiming that this happened.

New generation AirPods will have noise cancelling for the person with the AirPods in their ears so that they don’t hear surrounding noise.
AirPods and iPhones have always had noise cancelling technology so the person on the other side of the phone doesn’t get a bunch of feedback. This isn’t hard to understand. If you don’t believe me go try it yourself.
Not to mention the fact that he said the perp had a full ski mask on further reducing and distorting sound waves.
But then again he could just turn over his phone records to show he was on the phone when he says.
Why are you reaching so hard?

Thanks for confirming what I read.

Again, you're making an assumption, and narrowing possibilities, that he's using an iPhone. He may very well be, chances are high, but not certain from anything I've seen in regards to his phone.
I've spoken on the phone with many folks with iPhones and others where I've heard plenty of background noise, some of it clearly. So...how do you explain that?

Fair point. Doesn't make it IMPOSSIBLE though, does it?

Probably because I, like you, believe this phone call thing with the manager is bogus, and they want to delay this revelation as long as possible with the hopes that it will go away. I wonder if the rumors the other day of the police issuing a subpoena for his records is true.
quote:
Why are you reaching so hard?
Why are you denying the POSSIBILITY of a phone with, or without, earbuds or some other hands free tech being able to pick up external sound other than the "speaker"?
Again, we agree the phone isn't the smoking gun to prove the lie. All I've been doing is laying out some reasons why it shouldn't be the "haha...gotcha, you liar!" moment in this fiasco.
I DON'T BELIEVE THE PHONE CALL HAPPENED.
Let's move on and discuss the initial police report now, shall we?

So anything on the letter he got a week or so prior?
Bogus set-up for this "beat-down" event?

I haven't seen anything on it other than the FBI is handling that part of the investigation, and I think something about it coming from a southwest Chicago suburb.
Edit to add:
I'm intrigued that the clothing that was stained by this unknown chemical turned out to be furs. One of the early reports in regards to the video of Smollett entering the condo building stated that it appeared he had street salt on him, though he didn't look to be under duress.
WHAT IF...this is a slip and fall outside, like many surmise as likely, that resulted in their attempt to clean his furs using bleach or some other household chemical. Thus, ruining his furs....then this was all cooked up for some sort of insurance claim or something, besides just trying to save face and "start a conversation."

His manager didn’t hear shite on the phone. This story and your “possibilities” are a joke.

I think a person would have to have zero domestic skills to think bleach would be a good product to clean a fur coat with.

Insurance investigators are not the police. When your story starts waffling, or you refuse to cooperate, they will make sure you don't get paid, then dig until they have enough to imprison you for insurance fraud.
