remember thinking "I'm 99% sure it'll be fine" but then I also thought how much regret I'd have for not saying anything as we barreled past the end of the runway and began to tumble in a ball of flames.

I caught something once before we were going to push back and the flight attendant tried to brush me off so I was going for my ID to show her that I knew what I was talking about but my GF yelled out that I worked there. Captain went out aggravated and saw it and had to call maintenance. It wasn't that big of a deal but still..... I got free drinks from everyone around me lol.

I saw that on Air Disasters. Air Alaska right? Those poor pilots fought like hell to save that plane. Mentor Pilot did an episode on that as well.

the 78 the throttles will not advance when the TOGA switches are pushed if the flaps aren't set, so you'd have to override them and manually push them up, then ignore the config warning horn(that's fairly loud,) that would blare as soon as the engines spool up

Do you think it could have been bad fuel causing double flameout? You never hear the engines roaring. Wouldn’t they push the throttles to max thrust immediately after noticing they were too slow?

Also, the nose never drops. In fact it looks like the AOA increased… Could they have lowered the nose to try to gain air speed while troubleshooting the issue?

You’d think, but most of those guys probably never touch the throttles outside of taxiing and chopping the power idle to land.

Looks like they kept the nose pretty low initially trying to gain some speed but they never really did and eventually had to pitch up in a desperate attempt to not hit the ground. So either they took off with no flaps and just ignored all the warnings or had the incorrect flap setting and takeoff thrust setting entered into the computer.

Or severe wind shear

Or I guess bird strike to both motors but that’s like a one in a bazillion event.

I'd think more than one plane would've had this happen if that were the case.

British national Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, 40, is believed to be the lone survivor of the catastrophic crash involving Air India Flight 171. The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, carrying 242 passengers and crew bound for London, crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad with a total of 241 fatalities confirmed so far, including both pilots and several individuals on the ground.

Ole baw pulled off the miracle of surviving a major plane crash, the only survivor, only to still be in India.

Serious question: in your professional opinion does Boeing have a legitimate serious manufacturing or engineering problem? With all these stories for the first time I actually check which aircraft I’m going to be on and if I can choose an Airbus that’s what I do. Is that warranted at this point? Also, I’m not sure I’d ever get on an Indian airline to begin with

Possibly flew into a microburst right after takeoff? Looks like he pitched up hard and stalled

I saw no stall.

Lol the 787 has been around for a long time and the only issue was early on with batteries. That was fixed

This was almost certainly a pilot error or maintenance issue

They put accountants in charge rather than engineers....then you can sprinkle in the diversity hiring of engineers and you have a recipe for disaster. Also integrating a failed companies upper management into a successful companies never really works out.

I believe he was talking about Boeing in general and not necessarily this crash.

That’s a stupid take. There are around 7 million flights a year with roughly 2-6 accidents per year. Boeing has 3x as many planes out there as Airbus. You are safe on either, especially on a reliable airline. Accidents do happen, whether manufacturing or pilot error, I would say it’s more on the pilot or operator (putting hazardous materials on the plane) than it is the manufacturer. Pick the flight that makes sense for you and don’t worry about the plane. If it’s your time, it’s your time. A plane crash will end it for you better than drowning or getting eating by a shark
