A passenger who reportedly flew on the doomed Air India jet just two hours before it crashed, killing more than 200 people, posted shocking video in which he says “nothing” was working in the cabin — including lights, air conditioning and the seat-back display screens.
I'm no Aeronautical Engineer but I'm pretty sure the Inflight Entertainment System isn't tied into the flight surfaces of a 787.

No but a lack of air, lights and entertainment may be a flag of general upkeep issues

I don’t think that tie in was claimed in the article or in quote. That also wasn’t all that was mentioned in article. Like someone else just mentioned it could be a sign of overall poor upkeep and maintenance on the airplane which seems to be a problem in India.
quote:
The AC is not working at all. And, as usual, your TV screens are also not working, neither is this button for calling the cabin crew,”
Other apparent faults, such as loose parts under the seats, broken fittings, and potential signs of a lack of maintenance, are also visible in the videos.

Not a good look for Boeing
Why? This was most likely pilot error.

This picture was taken this morning in the crashed Air India plane. ?? Pratik Joshi had been living in London for six years. A software professional, he’d long dreamed of building a life abroad for his wife and three young children, who stayed back in India.
After years of waiting for due clearances, the dream was finally coming true. Just two days ago, his wife, Dr. Komi Vyas, a renowned doctor in Udaipur, resigned from her job. The bags were packed, goodbyes said, the future within reach.
This morning, the family of five, filled with hope and excitement, boarded Air India flight 171 to London. They clicked a selfie. Sent it to relatives. A one-way journey to a new life. But they never made it. The plane crashed. None of them survived.
In a matter of moments, a lifetime of dreams turned to ash. A brutal reminder, life is terrifyingly fragile. Everything you build, everything you hope for, everything you love, it all hangs by a thread. So while you can, live, love, and don’t wait for happiness to start tomorrow.

I tried explaining in the thread earlier that most people will just assume that since it's a Boeing plane that it was the planes/companies fault regardless of what the actual cause of was.
I got downvoted for some reason.

I believe you got downvoted because most people dont buy airliners or even pay attention to the company that makes them when booking a flight.
Unless this is from an inherent problem like the Max, which caused production to stop, and doesn't seem to be the case with the 787. This won't affect Boeing at all.

I remember flying into MDW once and we hit some turbulence and this older lanext to me grabbed my hand. I looked at her and she was white as a ghost. I asked her if she was nervous and she said yes. I told her to hold my hand if I panic then she should panic. Her death grip never eased but she did thank me after the flight.
Amazing story thanks for sharing.

You probably got the downvotes because we have so many similar threads, and they never include the name Airbus.

I have friends who has started checking which aircraft they are flying and then will ask me about it.
I'm not agreeing with people who will be 'worried' about flying on a Boeing aircraft but public opinion is a thing....

I love watching Juan, but this video by Captain Steve is very informative.
Possible accidental flap retraction by co-pilot instead of gear up.

They are just making excuses for why they keep driving to Big Bend or flying to Vegas instead of going somewhere interesting. Just point them to flight radar and show them the amount of aircraft in the air on any given day that nobody ever hears about.

I do try. I try to give stats and what not. This is what I was trying to explain that the general public doesn't care about. They don't see 737, 747, 787....they see BOEING.

So they'll gladly get on a Bombardier Q400? Point is, it's just an excuse, Boeing or not.

Funny how Boeings seem to have so much pilot error
Posted on 6/13/25 at 7:52 am to LemmyLives
They fly but generally try avoiding anything Boeing. Boeing has had bad press for years now and that is what I believe the statement 'not a good look for Boeing' is referring to. The general public doesn't follow aviation and just listen to headlines.

The 777 and 787 have the best safety records of any airframe current or past. It's not even comparable.

Mover also thinks there is something with the flaps setting.
Posted on 6/13/25 at 8:03 am to Saintsisit
Cat Steve is a bit of an idiot though, as he’s shown in the past. The flaps on the wing that were photographed after the crash were still extended. And the RAT’s were deployed. Highly unlikely the flaps were retracted and that caused the sudden loss of power to retract the landing gear (it stopped getting retracted when power was lost).
