July 20, 1969 - Houston, uh, Tranquility Base here, the Eagle has landed..."

On this day 54 years ago, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin undocked from the command module Columbia and began piloting the lunar module Eagle down to the lunar surface. With a little less than 15 seconds of descent fuel remaining, Armstrong and Aldrin touched down safely on the Sea of Tranquility, becoming the first humans to land on another world.
This video, just under 20 minutes in length, captures the cockpit and ground control audio (as well as video from the Eagle's onboard cameras) for the entirety of the descent to the lunar surface:

An incredible feat of engineering. At one point the program was offering $10,000 to anyone who could shave a pound off the lunar lander.

The Apollo guidance system used on the lunar lander was about 20 years ahead of it's time. Some of the worlds best mathematicians developed it and it's a modern marvel still today.

See you on page 127, debating why we can't see the Statue of Liberty and the Pyramids of Giza simultaneously.

I think we have a watch man on our hands. Likes his rings and sausages as well.

I was curious about that. I think a couple of the rings and watches were commemorative for the Apollo mission.

Buzz gives no fricks. He’ll wear as many watches as he wants to.

I really like the video that shows the lunar module taking off from the moon to return. To this day, I still feel bad for the poor guy they left on the moon that was filming that.

Agree!
We are supposed to believe a robot worked the camera from Houston sending back that video...yet in 2023, we still can't get DirecTV when it rains.
