Sharlo was a cool place to live up until about 5 years ago.
Lived in Sharlo for 2 years during college (10 years ago), we used to walk to Tigerland with no problems

Other than LSU and the capital (maybe the port) Baton Rouge offers next to nothing to Louisiana. I would imagine that respectable people will be moving out in droves in the next decade.

+1
Section 8 is the most destructive government program in existence. Destroys every neighborhood in it's path. And nothing will ever be done about it. Its well intentioned, and On paper there're rules that supposedly prevent problems. In reality it's a cancer.

the ridiculous rapid construction of unneeded large apartment complexes have turned that old area into the hood.

quote:I don't think it's that ridiculous. LSU has pretty much decided to move at a snails pace as far as on campus housing goes. So the apartment complex industry has boomed around the outskirts of campus.

It seems like we address the housing issue with TL every few months. But no one can come up with a realistic solution to the problem
if the Nicolson campus happens I think you will see a major push to improve that whole area and TL will die.

does "GSRI" still exist??
back in the 80s that was my cheap apartment of choice but damn if the cars in the parking lot didn't get broken into EVERY SINGLE NIGHT. (i had a POS car so no worries for me)
jose vargas had graduated and was playing euro-ball and lived in the apartment next to me.
made good friends with him..super great guy. someone broke in and stole his final 4 ring
that sucked.
eta no i didnt steal it.

Why? That's what happens when you accommodate criminals and people that don't do anything but sit on their asses. People don't want to pay for them so they won't.

The subsidization of the breeding and care of the lazy, by hardworking taxpayers, is like being forced to dig your own grave.

You do realize that LSU just had it's largest freshman class ever and a number of business (ex. IBM) are moving to the BR area.
Are people going to move out of the BR area? Sure. But to make it sound like this place will be a ghost town within a decade is pretty stupid statement to make.

Same thing killing Metairie... All those apartments and duplexes they built in the 70's and early 80's are shite now....A lot of low renters or section 8's in there... They should all be demolished.... Oh yeah, thanks Katrina...

People don't ever think of the real effects of subsidized housing. Beyond seeing your old neighborhood become a ghetto; nearly every American city has huge swathes of prime real estate occupied by ghetto. This pushes normal people to the suburbs, which further depletes the city. Then the ghetto inevitably spreads out via subsidized housing, and the suburbs have to move a bit further. So now you have tax paying workers who have to commute in for work. Total waste of time and gas. It affects everything.

I guess they would rather run from their problems than fight them

So JR Ball left the BR Business Report? he was a tool while there as well.
Tigerland has been on the downhill slide for years, so this story isn't a sunburst of insight. All you need to fix it is a bulldozer.

Lol, the neighborhood behind The bars could become like Chiraq and people will still go to Fred's & Reggie's.

If you try to fight section 8, you're maligned as racist.
