I'm pretty sure this is out of context. His point of view is that believing in things without evidence is punished by our peers in some cases but often viewed as a positive in others.
I have seen him make the point that believing Elvis is still alive and in the person of another living person is not rational. This is a belief that makes the people around you think you are a crazy person. A similar belief about Jesus or Mohammad on the other hand is often treated as a sort of virtue by people of Christian or Muslim faiths.
Not everyone believes in a communion wafer being a little piece of Jesus and almost no one believes in a wafer being little pieces of Elvis. Harris is arguing the point of view that both are equally irrational points of view without evidence to support them.
I do think this ruins him for many religious people who are intolerant of this type of criticism.

Yeah, even Harris encourages others to not watch that debate and stick to the second one.

It's from a debate with William Lane Craig (who I detest) and he's responding to WLC's Divine Command Theory. I'm linking this section of the debate here and am starting it at the relevant part, but he takes about 2 minutes to make the Elvis analogy.

Without question! Harris really is the voice on the left that rational people on the right should want speaking loudly. No...they won;t agree with him much of the time, but he tempers the left's positions in the way middle of the road rational folks on the right can do. but his outspoken atheism makes him toxic to much of the right.
But...if one is more interested in identity politics, Harris is not going to be appealing to hardly anyone.

Sam's an incredibly smart person, and I like listening to him every now and then, especially when he talks about more scientific topics.
That being said, I much prefer Peterson. The way he explains things, weaving science, history, and deep psychology, is incredible.

I wonder why Harris goes after the Catholic Church so much yet I don’t really see him going after Protestants a whole lot? Not that I really care, I’m a Protestant.
