Throwing racist in there is one of the biggest problems I have.
I still don't think guy deserved to be fired.... Reprimanded? Prob so.
Fired? No way.

Agreed. There is a "racial" overtone to the comments for sure, but to say they're racist is too big of a leap.

My immediate reaction would be to agree with you, but when you think about the climate between the police and certain segments of the population they are supposed to serve, you simply cannot afford to make this kind of comment and keep your job. You place a target on the back of you and your department by saying stuff like this. You're degrading a president that is very popular among some of your constituents, and those constituents are also at the center of the recent public issues with police.

The best way to summarize it is that his comment makes the situation worse. That cannot happen right now.

as i said, his language wasn't blatantly racist. but latently, there was a troubling underlying theme. four months ago he would've been reprimanded. he would've been given a chance to clarify his statement, or take a cultural sensitivity course..

right now, when tensions are high and cops and citizens are at near war with each other? "encouraging" a president to "declare war" on those same citizens is fireable.

his job is supposed to be keeping the peace, not instigating more tension. i have sympathy for the guy losing his career. if he's as good a cop as you say, i'm sure he'll get another shot.

but a resignation/firing was appropriate/necessary given the circumstances. sorry about your friend. but he brought it upon himself. hopefully he learns from it.

What exactly are you proving by firing the guy?
I'll tell you, nothing.

A few crybabies got a hold if this went and whined about it and bc they were black and our country is so GD sensitive to the feelings if poor black folk "justice" had to be dished out.

As I said from the start... Its fricking sickening a damn shame and at some point people need to call enough, enough.
This double standard is enough to make a man vomit.

sigh. good luck to you man. only crybaby i see is the one who took to an anonymous internet board and is arguing with reasonable people and calling them names.

additionally, if we re gonna cry about causes, i'll side with the ones mourning the death of the unfortunate and preventable death of a fellow human and not the super preventable loss of a job from a person who couldn't keep his mouth shut.

good day

The death WAS preventable is he had not been a career criminal and was working a real job, refused to comply either before or after getting the taser(lol?), physically resisted them, etc. Dipshit had plenty of chances to avoid losing his life.

So if these same comments were made by a black chief of police, this would not be an issue. And that, my friends, is part of the struggle in america right now.

Just a reminder: putting your controversial thoughts on Fakebook is never a good idea--especially when you live in a town with a black mayor and council. Should have known better.

If he had posted it before the BR shootings (first black cop being targeted), and not used the profanity, would he have still been fired?

it doesn't matter if he made racist comments, he called out Barry, who is black, so he is automatically labeled a racist.

Why White police officers continue to make comments on facebook is beyond me. They are going to twist every word you type, so stop posting shite. Seriously, when will they learn.

I'm from Jonesville and I've have seen the guy in passing. No one in Catahoula, white or black, has had anything nice to say about the guy. He did this to himself and by all accounts he's not the "good dude" you claim him to be.
