Damn shame. I moved down to LSU in mid 90s and the first thing I discovered was Rock 92.3 in NOLA and they were just on a different level of funny.

Walton's Obama impersonation was the best.

RIP. I remember driving on the morning of 9-11-01 listening to them on the radio when they started talking about breaking news coming over the wire about a plane hitting a building in NYC. They were treating it as a joking matter at first but changed their tune as soon as everyone realized how serious it was. I arrived at my destination (Lakeway Center on Causeway) and watched the events unfold on TV. They were funny back in the day.

Wow, didn’t know his illness was that serious.

They have downplayed it on the show.

Great radio talent, I will legitimately miss him in the mornings.

Sorry to hear of his passing, but man I really hated that show. I pretty much agreed with all their political opinion, but they made everyone who shared their opinion sound like an ignorant redneck. Apparently they had another show where they didn't use the goofy accents?

Yea I think most people will acknowledge the 'decline', or shift, from entertaining morning show to tired political talk show came circa 2008 with Obama.

I dare say it started with the 9/11 attacks

it just went to another level when Obama was elected

Walton lost a son to cancer about this time and I think the show shifted around this more than anything.

ETA: my mom used to have them on in the 80s on B97. Would usually have to change the station when Amos the old storyteller would come on. Then there was Craven Morehead, Mr Eaux selling steak knives out his trunk on Canal St., Mr Kenneth and the Head Shed where he had his salon, Billy Ed and his past as a secret shadow warrior in Nam and his feud with Patrick Swayze, good memories.

They don’t use voices in the first hour of the show

RIP John Walton. A great show that lasted a long time with quality entertainment, information and humor wrapped into one. Looked forward to hearing them in the mornings for the last 30+ years. These newer morning shows absolutely suck arse.

It wasn't exactly "sudden" considering he hasn't been on the show for at least around a month.

Just devastating. I feel like I lost a lifelong friend. RIP John Walton. You really helped me start off many days with a good laugh. God bless his family, as well as Steve Johnson & Kenny Webster.

In their heyday, Johnson used his real voice until like 6am. Then them three fools would 'get to the studio'.

They’ve been doing this even recently

Little Wing would play for 10 minutes and they would have abnormal conversation before the characters came out
