Look at the stats - crime in Baton Rouge is not at the 1990s level - but it is one of the most dangerous cities in the USA - that can be backed up with data - and my anecdotes are things that didn’t even make it into the data - which is why I decided to share

Again, you live in a place that is on average, dumber, poorer, and more violent than the vast majority of the rest of the rest of the country. New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Memphis are not microcosms of urban America, they are statistical outliers.

Everything is peaches and cream until someone you love gets murdered and then you blame the killer’s actions on something like systemic racism or conservative white people.

My type is one that grew up in a poor rural setting in the middle of nowhere and recognized all the failure and hopelessness around me as my friends got hooked on meth and lower class wages because it was “home.” I packed my shite and left to start a new life, 1,600 miles from everyone I ever knew to find opportunity and people that weren’t stuck in life. Lot of posters here did it too, they talk about it a lot.
You grew up in one of the worst quality of life states and it has clearly destroyed your psyche as you blame others for your circumstances, failing to ever take control and change them by relocating to a place that is filled with people that are more like you and less like the POS that you live by today. Maybe it is time to do something different, somewhere different. Sometimes you need to realize the battle is lost. New Orleans and Baton Rouge aren't going to bounce back in the near future. This is decidedly part of the asscrack of this great nation.
We all accepted this same reality in small town America when the manufacturing sector was lost; those that didn’t stayed in economic despair and watched their loved ones spiral into drug and alcohol addiction as the ride out their time living in squalor, waiting for someone to come save them. Sometimes the decisions are made for you, you’re just not willing to listen and act accordingly. Instead, you pretend that every city is like this and make all these excuses as to why you can’t just leave hell.
