They will line up on Bonnabel and end at Clearview mall. Announcement made to the Bonnabel civic association. There will be a press conference in two weeks. This is breaking. It was approved today.

The parade will stay on the same side of the street but head in the direction of traffic. It will still turn at Houma, Severn will remain as well.

I thought they were canceling Mardi Gras in Jefferson Parish since no one goes to the parades anymore.

It’s a nod to history since the parades will move in the same direction as white flight from the city.

On Vets.. from Bonnabel to Oaklawn there are a few bars that are not going to be happy. But that could be the purpose of this change.

Not sure how this is really going to help.

They need to consolidate everything into the first weekend and Fat Tuesday,

First Captain Klean and now this - too much excitement for Jefferson parish in one day.

If so, they ought to take a right on N. Causeway.

Cliffnotes for those not reading the older story link:

Mentions running the parade through a little more residential area (start at boat launch???) more like the Uptown/Midcity parades.

Moving Family Gras to Clearview, so people can go watch parades and turn into a big after party guaranteeing the unloading riders and their families participate.

Jefferson parades are dying. Used to be nice to see Caesar. Damn shame. Guess I’ll just stick to Endymion, Bacchus, etc

When I was a kid who was interested in catching as many doubloons, beads and cups as I could, the Metairie parades were the tops. Nothing like standing on the Bonnabel neutral ground to catch throws from both sides.

Kaptain Klean is a rip off of local efforts by citizens groups to clean Kenner. When the groups asked for help the mayor said "Kenner is a clean city", the groups get no publicity from the city, then bam the city unveils a clean up mascot with a news conference.

This is what is going down.

Parades will load at Clearview mall in the same spot as always, riders will park in the same area.

JPSO will escort the floats down Clearview to West Esplanade, down to Bonnabel (so expect traffic headaches getting to parades because of parade) the parade will line up on West Esplande and Bonnabel, with the smaller parades wholly contained on Bonnabel. (plans for marching groups and bands haven't been released yet, because they generally park and meet with the floats, will they be transported to Bonnabel, or will they have to park in a neighborhood? )

They will turn off Bonnabel and head towards Clearview mall, still turning by Lakeside mall/Severn. They will end at "Family Gras" staging area at Clearview mall.

I really hope they don’t do this for Mardi Gras day. The thought of the 150 trucks lining up down Bonnabel and W Esplanade seems like a disaster

Terrible idea. Will create more traffic issues and will alienate the vast majority of attendees simply to appease a few homeowners on Bonnabel who did not like the parade getting there so late.
