You want to see the Old Metairie get really angry? go with that plan.

Honestly, I think Uptown just seems safer to parents than it did in the 1980s and 90s. The massive crime problem of those decades helped create bigger crowds in Metairie. Nowadays, most parents know to avoid Jackson Ave to the Interstate and you likely won't be near the shootings.

But JP had to try something new. The parade "crowds" consist of a few loose packets of people here and there. Maybe a few drunks in front of Veterans bars. At least that's how it is near the end of the old route from Bonnabel to Martin Burman.

The bars are not providing the necessary crowds to justify the 930-10pm arrival times.
Lots of new families moving into Bucktown/Bonnabel Place area. Seems they are trying to get the neighborhood element out rather than relying on the bars. From Severn to Clearview is completely commercial anyway. Makes more sense to go there later.

The Bucktown/Bonnabel neighborhood facebook groups are howling, but it's mostly older people without kids or those directly affected by the traffic.

I live in the area and have kids. After work traffic will be a pain, but I have my alternate route worked out. I'm happy they're giving it a shot. No way I can keep my young kids up for a parade that sometimes doesnt even arrive until 10pm or later.

This will allow the retail business to stay open a bit later before their parking lots get filled with parade-goers; or allows them to get the hell out well beforehand. It also gives the restaurants more time to serve diners.

UPDATE: Per the current press conference, it looks like there are 2 routes that parades can choose. Neither route starts at W. Esplanade like originally thought. I will update as the formal plans are published.

1. Westbound Route - Starts at Bonnabel and Nero. It then looks to take it traditional route out to Clearview

2. Eastbound route - start at Clearview mall like the original route and takes it normal route. Once on bonnabel, it will turn at Feronia and back up to vets.

Westbound Route: Excalibur, Athena

Traditional route: Ceasar, Isis

I'm assuming Mardi Gras day will remain the same?

No word yet. Those parades are still yet to decide but I speculate it will remain the same.

So, so, so stupid.

I don't care what route they use, but they need to pick one and stick with it. The last thing JP needs to do is to make it more confusing to attend a parade.

I sure hope they decide to leave it as it is. Bonnabel neutral ground for Mardi Gras day is what family parades should all aspire to be

Is the neutral ground across from puglias still the hot spot to catch all the shitty Metairie parades?

Also, I feel like the parish spent tons of money on infrastructure at the former site by Lakeside. Now, all wasted as they go to Clearview.

So strange.

I recommend taking Clearview and heading to Huey P direction (south) then hurrying up and getting over to the left, take the turn and the service road to one block past Cleary (Danny Park) take first two right turns to get on cleary, then first two right turns to get to other service road. It's like the Batcave going to the Dome or the Konami code. It's quick and gets you anywhere on the south side, which is easier to leave than the north side.

Pretty awesome and accurate.

I live on the NS and preferred just taking West Esplanade left or right depending on where we catching it, then scooting out quick afterwards.

Oh well, kids are older and it's time to find some high falutin digs in NOLA now anyway.

This. The price per sqft of a home in those areas has risen considerably.
