True.

He did follow through with NOLA though, so maybe there’s hope for BR.

What direct power does the governor have on state court judges or DAs? Or are you saying he should’ve already had the national guard stationed at the mall? I know if gave no statement y’all would be bashing him over that too.

Propose a solution. Any solution.

Say he help introduce minimum sentences
Say he will support holding parents responsible
Use actual names of judges who are soft
Call out the judge that let the guy out by name
Propose an actual solution.

If you are right and he can't do shite walk out and say he can't do shite and tell people what to do. Quit speaking in platitudes. Quit making excuses for this guy being in a position of power for a decade and having nothing to show for actual results.

Requires the legislature which reduced all the minimum sentences and three strikes laws we already had

How? That’s more just vague talk.

fine, but that’s not a solution either. Everyone here would still just say he’s all talk.

Putting all those frickers in prison is the only real answer, since they are never going to start behaving on their own, but that’s up to DAs, judges, and juries. He could send out more national guard and state police I suppose, assuming the state can afford it. That would be something.

Got it. So why is he saying anything if he can't do anything? Limp dick governor if he controls an entire branch and his party controls a super majority in another and still can't get anything done.

The real problem is we get the local government we deserve. District judges and DAs are elected by voters who want criminals released. the legislature can impose harsh minimum sentences, and that would help, but then democrat DAs will plead charges down to avoid the jail time.

I think Landry could do something about parole/good time policy. I could be wrong. I believe legislature sets the parameters for probation sentencing but I think good time/parole are executive. So that would be impactful, I think, if he has that authority.

Way I see it, it’s not something that can be fixed overnight but half the battle is saying what needs to be said. Everyone is so afraid to say it and address it. Even after a tragedy like this and Allie rice, the coward mayor is still walking on eggshells.

Yea Landry could have probably called out the judges by name. But telling us they’ll be seeking out outstanding warrants in NBR and arresting them is something. It’s not nothing. Whether it’ll get done, nobody knows yet.
Maybe he will increase police presence, and train them to start profiling these animals but it won’t happen overnight.

He said the right stuff yesterday imo.

Saying it is one thing. Following through and actually doing something about it is another.

The shite he did to Melanie Perkins as AG should be criminal. Go listen to the podcast with Jim Rathman. Essentially gives a date rape victim (not at all tied to the Denny Cynthia Perkins pedo charges) a life sentence.

And incase you think you know what happened, go listen to this podcast. True Crime Report with Jim Rathman

Landry said the right things,

The only people that can stop this are parents (raise their kids right) and judges (punish kids who commit minor crimes before they commit major ones)

Don’t let DAs off the hook. Some of them would put their own mothers in jail but some also want to release every criminal back on the street. Same goes for juries.

Need to build more prisons too. That takes a lot of money but it’s money well spent. Landry should spearhead that.

Just because he says something that I’m supportive of, doesn’t mean I like him as my governor

I don't know if he is that bad but he is a clown. He jumps on whatever so he can take the side of popular opinion. Now, this situation I am not going to judge him for because it might be personal to him. but he inserts himself where he doesn't need to be.

He is just another governor who fails to address the real issues in this state. Infrastructure, insurance, education, economy, etc.. The important shite. But if you ever need a live tiger that's not Mike he is your guy. He is just another blow hard who will frick up and do the right thing from time to time. The best governor this state has had since I can remember is Mike Foster. Then starting with Blanco to Landry, they have all been clowns. There hasn't been much difference between any of them. Sure they have all took their own stances on certain issues, but outside of that it has been business as usual.

All he can do is appoint different people to the Board. With that said, we already passed “truth in sentencing” laws which prospectively abolished parole. Early release of any kind is capped at 85% time served. Not a whole lot of room left to go.
