Ticket will probably be worse than normal being it happened in a construction zone technically.

Were workers present? That may add even more.

72 in a 55 is all on you, dude... You got to obey that 5 mph over rule. 17 over is pretty bad.

quote:

Mandatory $500 Minimum: Louisiana law imposes strict financial consequences specifically designed to protect road workers. If caught speeding in an occupied work zone, you will pay a flat minimum of $500 in base fines, which scales up depending on your speed and prior offenses.

The road went back to two lanes, and I’m 90% sure that the cones were gone- I assumed incorrectly that that meant the construction was over and the speed limit was back to 65. I was definitely doing between 55-60 when it was down to 1 lane

Yeah, I've noticed many construction areas on the interstate where the cones do end, but you have to get past that "END CONSTRUCTION ZONE" sign.

It could be some type of trap they use. I'm always tempted to hit 80 after being stuck in a 6 mile construction zone going 50.. And yeah, there can be that stretch of construction zone with no cones or markings until you get to that "END CONSTRUCTION ZONE" sign a few more miles ahead.

I thought the state had shut down the Jeanerette Marshall racket because too much of their town revenue was coming from tickets

But guess they are back at it

you know, they finally fixed the thruway from I10 to Pinhook. Smooth surface all the way. Then they go and frick up 90 form Broussard to New Iberia. Its ridiculous.

There are a couple of overpasses around Jeanerette that are treacherous too.

90 east of Amelia is absolutely a disgrace and needs to be fixed soon

90 is really a joke through that stretch. They’re pouring money into upgrading it to intestate and doing a horrible job at it. You can’t tow anything on 90 without risking damage.

Points?

Watt dis bees?

Georgia uses a system where you get points added to your license for moving violations. If you get 15 points, you can have your license suspended, insurance rates go up, fines, etc.
Passing a school bus is 6 points.
34+ over the limit is 6 points
Passing on a hill or curve is 4 points
Open container is 2 points
Unsecured load is 2 points
Using your cell phone is 1 point

truth. I used to hate taking a tactor or mower to Sammy Broussard in NI because you couldn't tow over 50 MPH without risking damage to trailer or equipment.

Any idea what I’m looking at for the fine? I fully expect $350.
Well it's too late now. You are supposed to offer $200 cash right there on the spot and they will not file the ticket. Its a win-win. Insurance doesn't find out and the cop gets to take the wife out to a steak dinner.

As i am dan mentioned, for the additional fines, workers MUST be present.

You can't just put up the signs and collect the extra money.

Per La. R.S. 32:57(H)

If a person operating a motor vehicle exceeds the speed limit or breaches a construction zone or utility work safety zone on the portion of a highway or road which is under active construction or maintenance and construction or utility workers are on site, or which is in the process of being repaired and construction or utility workers are on site, the fine shall be not less than five hundred dollars nor more than one thousand
dollars.

Use their own rule book against them.

Overall I think it’s a positive infrastructure improvement but damn there are some head scratchers with that project. Why the hell did they allow access points to the highway like this? Just tie it in with the main exit a 1/4 mile down. Who thought this was a good idea? Just about every time I pass right here I see a near miss.
T-Boy hammering down in the right lane to pass everyone and mawmaw pulls out onto the hwy.

These little shitass LA towns do this all the time.

Not to mention all the speed traps like Golden Meadow Washington, etc.

Call the number on the ticket and pay to keep it off your record. That's how Jeanerette rolls. Bust people on HWY 90 while their actual town is crumbling.

Yep. Same thing happened to me while I was down there. Some black dude with dreadlocks. He was pulling over people as fast as he could. I haven’t had a ticket in over 30 yrs. Dude was writing the MFer before he even got out of the car. Extortion.

Those marshalls patrolling that stretch of 90 are a beast. And that construction zone is low hanging fruit for them. I’m sure they are loving these opportunities.
