R0 is not a stagnant figure. It changes. The study you linked is estimating the initial R0 at the epicenter of Wuhan, not the base R0.

The base R0, as calculated by most experts, is around 2.5.

In Louisiana, we are currently under 2.

You know, it really is fascinating to see the various talking points that get thrown around here and how they are used to back up various viewpoints. For example:

Thread #1
Anti-Shutdown Guy: “This all a lie! Antibody studies show 175% of the population has been infected! The mortality rate is zero!”
Pro-Shutdown Guy: “You’re wrong! Those studies are flawed! No way that many people have been infected!”

Thread #2
Pro-Shutdown Guy: “This is the most contagious virus ever!!”
Anti-Shutdown Guy: “You’re wrong! The R0 is only 1.000001!”

It’s like it has to either be the apocalypse or the sniffles and everyone wants to twist the data to their world view. It’s neither of those things. (Not necessarily directed at Antonio Moss - I think you’ve tried to be pretty reasonable.)

The truth of the matter is that influenza puts a strain on our healthcare system and kills a lot of “at risk” people every year. Even if the anti-shutdown people are right and this is just like the flu - the appearance of a new strain of flu with no vaccine and no herd immunity would be a big fricking deal and should be taken seriously.

The other truth of the matter is that you can’t just shut down two thirds of the national economy without severe consequences. Poverty kills people too.

It’s not a hoax, and it’s not smallpox. I don’t know what the best solution is - I’m personally in the camp of “open shite back up before there are riots” - but I know I’m slowly losing faith in humanity watching the arguments on this play out.

Nah. He's scared. He's retweeting stuff from Bayou Brief, but making fun of TD.

I'm not surprised.

Ole Ethan concurred the data is correct

Just said it shouldn't be presented that way because it is politically biased.

Factual data is now politically biased.

I tried to be nice to Ethan. He appears to be a soon to be graduate of LSU and remaining politically active/informed.

I was naive at that age, as well.

For the record, since PPP is a private polling service they don't have to publish their findings unless the client wants them released. I'd wager they've run more polls for JBE since early April, but his favorability has declined...so they obviously aren't going to share them.

I didn't know what poll he was referencing, but I would imagine JBEs popularity took a hit after his announcement to extend.

If he tries to play hardball with JP then it will get much worse. I'm not sure what his political aspirations are after this, but alienating a populance that he recently won over.

Fwiw, standing by on a phonecall where a large New Orleans employer is announcing they are shutting down their New Orleans office permanently.

Yes, I’ve been saying he will run for the US Senste.
And he’ll probably win because we have so many RINOs that support him.

1 of 27 (30?) cells in a spreadsheet or whatever you want to label it. Its not 27 cells in a column. Its 1 of 9 cells in a column unless we include the STATE row, then its 1 of 10. Remind me what has all 3 cells in that STATE row indicate?

Just sayin.

I voted for JBE twice. I met him. He came to my office and shook hands. Seemed like a a nice guy. I felt he was the less risky candidate, both times. Neither of the other two that ran against him even bothered to come to my parish, nor did I know of anyone that actually met or knew the other two. (Not gonna argue about it. I felt that way. Downvote all you want.)

After the extension, I regret it. There was no basis for the decision, imo. I started paying attention locally when our mayor had expressed she was not going to open up things because "there are numbers I still don't like." I wanted to find those numbers. Im still looking for those numbers.

This really wasnt a difficult thing for our governor to do. He is a lawyer. Lawyers are trained to have a desired result and focus on the evidence that lead to that desired result.

My first job, the founding partner's first bit of advice, "Don't tell me the 100 ways I can lose the case. Find me the one way that I can win."

He was being an advocate for extension of the stay at home order. Nothing more.

John Kennedy is nothing like Vitter and Rispone.

Kennedy would be the first competent, disciplined and formidable republican opponent in JBE’s political career. And Kennedy will not run a dumpster fire campaign like Vitter and Rispone and Kennedy does not have to worry about another republican like Vitter and Rispone struggled with that greatly benefited JBE.

At first glance running for senate in 2022 may have no risk but does he really want to leave the Governor’s office having suffered a beat down a year earlier?

Correct. I'm asking him to show that evidence. Because putting "increasing" on a powerpoint slide without any citation to the data/methodology isn't evidence.

I agree. He fudged the evidence. I guess I sound like Im sticking up for him. Its exactly the opposite. He lost me as a supporter. Its easy to hate anything democrat. It takes much more to lose a voter that votes for the man, not the party.

This is what you get when you meet a politician who is actively campaigning for votes. Did you think he was going to come off as an a-hole?
